The Coconut Milk Soap from the Coconut Soap Disaster and subsequent successful batch is almost cured. The photos above show the color progression over a series of weeks. The discoloration from the fabulous fragrance combo of Buttercream & Snickerdoodle mixed with Relaxing did take its toll and the color is now a dark dark brown (practically black). Also, the lines aren’t as distinct but they’re still showing differentiation between the brown and the black. The soap smells heavenly and will be ultra luxe to bathe with so a little blurry on the lines is a-okay with me.

I know this is quite an old post, but how did the soap turn out other than the color? Was it as luxurious and wonderful as you had hoped?

It was lovely – I’m a big fan of all milk soaps and this one was beautiful in the shower – though it did lather brown with all the dark vanilla notes in it.

Thanks! I might try this but without adding any fragrance oils. I’ve been wanting to try a milk-ish soap, but I’m still pretty new and haven’t ventured into that yet.

Just keep your temps low and you’ll do great =) And remember, it smells badly for the first two weeks (sort of like urine) so that’s normal – not anything you did wrong. =)

i think it kinda looks cool!

I agree about how a soap looks versus how it performs is sometimes not the same – good point.
I'll check out Asparagus-Soap. Thanks for the hint.

There is sometimes a discrepancy between how great a soap looks (and yours looks amazing) and how good it actually is. I'v been buying high quality natural soaps for a while now with a small soap maker called Asparagus. I highly recommend as their products are fantastic.

I'm the type of person who could care less how a soap looks, so long as it cleans nicely and smells awesome, but it's good to know what to expect with a fragrance so you can plan accordingly. Thanks for the update!

Oh what a shame 🙁
Snickerdoodle is such a wonderful scent
So glad you tested this out so we can see how the fragrances test out.
You're wonderful AM!

That's exactly what happened when I used the Buttercream and Snickerdoodle in CP. I did not do a swirl or anything so it ended up looking gross, dark brown all over except in the very center it was a light cream. I called it to poo soap and threw most of it away ;-))

I think it looks DELISH and Ibet it smells fantastic!
Congrats on the "best" of the year awards. You and your helpers are a joy to work with and you all deserve it.

It looks lovely – like some unctious cake slice or something, I'd love to smell it!!

What a shame it discolored from a pretty orangey color to dark brown. But it doesn’t look that bad. It looks like a coffee and cream soap. I love those : ) An if it still smells good it’s not that much of a disaster. I’m sure I’ll be great to bathe with! And now you know what happens when you mix those fragrances together. As we say in Holland: “Al doende, leert men” (By ignorance we err, and by errors we learn.)
