On this episode of SoapQueen.TV, I show how to use our totally adorable Japanese erasers. This project uses the layering and embedding techniques to make an entire loaf of soap, making 8 -10 bars just in time for Easter! This project is easy to customize with different colors or fragrances.

What colors would work for the little yellow excavator?
Becky with Bramble Berry says
You could do almost any color for the little yellow excavator, but you want to make sure the base you stick it in is clear so you can see the fun little toy. For background colors, I would choose something bright and fun, something like a purple or blue, or even a white background to offset the little yellow excavator. Here are a few suggestions:
Amethyst Purple Mica: https://www.brambleberry.com/Amethyst-Purple-Mica-P3598.aspx
Blue Mica – Cellini Lip Safe Mica: https://www.brambleberry.com/Blue-Mica-Cellini-Lip-Safe-Mica-P3069.aspx

Why do you have to spray the embeds with rubbing alcohol?
Becky with Bramble Berry says
The embeds (erasers) need to be sprayed with rubbing alcohol so that they can adhere to the melt and pour base as well as preventing any air bubbles that might try to make their way in there! =)

I made this with the cute piggies a few weeks ago and have noticed that the pigs were going funny inside. However when I cut one open to check it was an air bubble forming around the pig. Any ideas how to avoid this in the future?
Have just got a massive box of different Iwako Erasers to have a play. So excited!
Becky with Bramble Berry says
I love the little piggies, they are absolutely adorable!
The number one tip I can give you to prevent air bubbles in melt and pour soap is to spray with Isopropyl alcohol. Make sure you spray the layer beneath the piggie, the piggie itself and spray the the piggie before you pour the next layer and spray that layer as well. That should help to prevent those air bubbles!

I was wondering how much clear and white soap base you would use if you only have the 9″ mold?
Courtney says
Great question. The 12″ mold holds 4.5 pounds and the 9″ mold holds about 3.25 pounds of soap. Since this recipe has a total of 3 pounds, it will be cutting it close in the 9″ loaf mold (especially since you’re adding the piggies). Just to be on the safe side I would decrease each layer by 2-3 ounces.
I would try 5 ounces for the white soap layers and 14-16 ounces of the clear. Just make sure you have enough to completely cover the piggies.

I love these Iwako erasers. The Unicorn ones are soooooo cute!
Have you tried using them after the soap has gone to see if they still work?
Anne-Marie says
I have not but in theory, they totally should. =) Let me know if you try it!
Heidi says
Which loaf mold did you use 12 or 9 inch? Thanks.
Courtney says
We used a 12″ clear loaf mold for this tutorial. Unfortunately we do not sell the clear mold anymore but we do have a white plastic mold that will be perfect https://www.brambleberry.com/12-inch-Loaf-Mold-P5051.aspx

I would love to do this do you need to use the oil’s from bramble berry or can you get them at your local store?
Anne-Marie says
You can use any skin safe fragrance oil =) So no potpourri or candle fragrance oils.

Thanks, Claudia! It’s such a fun and playful project!
Janine says
Do you have a problem with the erasers bleeding in the soap? I did some a few months ago and they are now almost impossible to tell what they are.
Anne-Marie says
Not at all – but maybe we have different erasers than you do? We tested ours pretty extensively before bringing in because I have had other plastic toys do that (and boy, isn’t it frustrating?!) =) Were you using the Bramble Berry erasers when they bled? If so, definitely let me know. I want to hear about it =)
Janine says
No, I wasn’t using the Bramble Berry ones. I guess I know what I have to do now. LOL Thanks!
