Soapy inspiration can come from a variety of different sources. From places and design to scents and colors, possible influence is everywhere! For this adorable gingerbread man project, inspiration came from a colorful yet slightly festive color palette via Design Seeds. With a deep burgundy, bright green and icy blues, this color combination is a fresh take on the holidays!
Achieving these unique colors requires mixing both liquid and powder colorants. The end results are worth the extra effort; these shades are a great combination of cheerful, sophisticated and festive. Scented with a delicious smelling combination of Almond and Cinnamon Sugar Fragrance Oils, these cute gingerbread men smell good enough to eat. Just don’t forget to add the Vanilla Color Stabilizer to prevent vanilla discoloration!

What You’ll Need:
Gingerbread Man Mold
12.5 oz. Goat Milk Melt and Pour
7.5 oz. Clear Melt and Pour
Fizzy Lemonade Colorant
Neon Blue Raspberry Colorant
Liquid Yellow
Liquid Blue
Liquid Red Oxide
Liquid Non-Bleeding Cherry
Liquid Black Iron Oxide
Liquid Non-Bleeding Teal
Liquid Green Oxide
Liquid Glycerin
.15 CC Mini Scoop (1 scoop)
5 mL Almond Cybilla Fragrance Oil
5 mL Cinnamon Sugar Fragrance Oil
10 mL Vanilla Color Stabilizer
Box Template for Gingerbread Man
COLOR PREP: In a small container, add ten .15 CC mini scoops of Fizzy Lemonade Colorant and 1/2 tsp. liquid glycerin. Use a mini mixer to remove any clumps. In a separate container, disperse four .15 CC mini scoops of Neon Blue Raspberry into 1 tsp. of 99% isopropyl or rubbing alcohol. Use a mini mixer to remove any clumps, and set both colors aside.
ONE: In a large heat safe container, cut and melt 12.5 oz goat milk melt and pour base in the microwave using 15 second bursts, stirring in between each burst. In a separate container, melt 7.5 oz. clear melt and pour base in the microwave using 10 second bursts, stirring in between each burst.
TWO: To the clear melt and pour, add 2 mL Almond Fragrance Oil, 2 mL Cinnamon Sugar Fragrance Oil and 4 mL Vanilla Color Stabilizer. Stir to combine. To the goat milk melt and pour, add 3 mL Almond Fragrance Oil, 3 mL Cinnamon Suagr Fragrance Oil and 6 mL Vanilla Color Stabilizer. Stir to thoroughly combine.
THREE: Split the goat milk and clear melt and pour bases into four separate heat safe containers, using the following amounts:
- Container A: 5 oz. goat milk melt and pour
- Container B: 5 oz. goat milk melt and pour
- Container C: 2 oz. goat milk melt and pour + 3 oz. clear melt and pour
- Container D: .5 oz. goat milk melt and pour + 4.5 oz. clear melt and pour
The reason for splitting the goat milk and clear soap bases into various ratios is to obtain the right colors. The containers with more clear soap will later be the darker colors, while the containers with more goat milk soap will be lighter, more pastel shades.
FOUR: To container A, add half of the dispersed Neon Blue Raspberry and 1 drop of Liquid Blue. Stir thoroughly and set aside.
FIVE: To container B, add 10 mini scoops of dispersed Fizzy Lemonade, the remaining dispersed Neon Blue Raspberry and 3 drops of Liquid Yellow. Stir to thoroughly combine.
SIX: To container C, add 2 drops Non-Bleeding Teal Liquid, 5 drops Liquid Green, 2 drops Liquid Black and 2 drops Liquid Blue. Stir to thoroughly combine.
SEVEN: To container D, add 6 drops of Liquid Red, 2 drops of Non-Bleeding Cherry Liquid, 2 drops Liquid Yellow and 1 drop Liquid Black. Stir to thoroughly combine.
EIGHT: Using the injector tool, fill in the small details on the gingerbread men, including the lines around the edges, bow-tie, buttons and face. For each gingerbread men, use various colors to make three unique soaps.
TIP: When using the injector tool, have a cup of hot soapy water nearby! This allows you to quickly clear out the soap in the injector tool between colors. If you don’t, the soap may harden in the injector tool and clog it. NINE: If necessary, use a Clean Up Tool to clean up any details that may have spilled.
TEN: Allow the small details to fully harden and cool. If necessary, reheat the four containers of soap using 5 second bursts until liquid. Once the soap has reached approximately 120-125 degrees, spray all mold cavities with 99% isopropyl or rubbing alcohol and pour each cavity with the various colors of soap. You will have one color left over, set remaining soap aside to use after the hardened soap have been removed.
ELEVEN: Spray each cavity with 99% isopropyl or rubbing alcohol to disperse any bubbles. Allow to fully cool and harden. Once hardened, remove soap from the mold, reheat the leftover soap to create one more gingerbread man. Allow to cool and fully harden, and enjoy!

I made the gingerbread soap for the first time today with my kids to give as Christmas gifts and despite a lot of huge setbacks with it, we still had fun. However, I was very disappointed that when after the soap had been sitting for several hours that when we popped them out, the piping, faces, buttons, and bowties stayed in the mold and didn’t come out with the gingerbread men. 🙁 I sprayed with 99% isopropyl alcohol before and after the piping and the soap itself. What happened? I’m almost scared to do any more and we’ve got 9 more to go. ..
Kelsey says
Hi Melanie!
Oh no, I’m sorry those details stayed behind! I’ve had that happen before too and it’s definitely frustrating.
The great news is you can scrape the details out of the mold, remelt them and pipe them again! It will mix the colors together, but you can still use that soap. 🙂
When spraying the alcohol, you’ll want to spray it right before you pour the melted soap on top. If it’s sprayed even a couple minutes before, it can evaporate and the layers can separate.
It also helps to press on the details themselves while you’re unmolding. I like to put my thumbs on the buttons and the face when unmolding the soap. That way the details loosen first, and then the body of the soap itself pops out. 🙂

Ann says
Hi! I was wondering what the shelf life of this is.
Kelsey says
Hi Ann!
Melt and pour soaps typically last a year or more. Storing them in a cool dry place before using them or giving them away helps make them last longer as well. 🙂

Leanna H says
My dad LOVES these! I made 3 last year as a test of my skills and they turned out flawless! Little did I know I wasn’t going to get a single one! Between my mom and my dad I get hardly any of the soap I make unless it’s a scent only I like.
Kelsey says
Hi Leanna!
That’s awesome! So glad you like the mold. 🙂

Monica says
I have to agree with Michael, I’m a traditionalist, so I prefer the classic gingerbread man look. The other ones look like they’re back up singers for The Blue Man Group. 😉
Kelsey says
Hi Monica!
We loved the unique look of these gingerbread men, but the classic colors look awesome too. 🙂

I love, love, LOVE this mold and this technique! I bought the kit earlier in the year. But I have to say – these odd color combinations don’t work for me. I will stick to the traditional gingerbread brown color!
Kelsey says
Hi Michael!
That’s just fine too – the classic colors look great as well. 🙂
