The Lufthansa flight LH44 from Munich experienced wingstrike while landing at Hamburg on 1 March 2008 during Emma storm. My husband who has his pilot’s license said, “Those are some major crosswinds. That is one skillful pilot!” Nobody was injured; the plane landed using another runway. Coming off my “Washington State to NYC and back in 24 hours” marathon, this film makes me shudder.

  2. I’m not watching that, I’m not watching that, I’m not watching that. LOL! No, seriously, I’m not! I just watched the pilot episode of Lost on DVD (I’d never seen it before), and while I know perfectly well it’s fiction, it still gave me the heebie-jeebies, and that last thing I need to watch is a real-life close-call. Yes, I’m Queen Chicken, but I don’t care.

    I find it kind of funny that a flying-phobic person is married to a guy with a pilot’s license. ;D

  3. OMG! Flying makes me nervous to begin with and I felt my anxiety levels rise significantly just watching this footage. That pilot is amazing to have landed the plane as well as he did. Wow!

  4. Joanna, hubby got his plane pilot’s license. He’s not current (thankfully!). Small planes scare me =)

    Rita, I drive to Seattle at least once a week for business meetings, Otion scouting, flying etc… but my preference is to fly out of Bellingham. It’s an extra $200 and sometimes, an extra 4 hours in various airports waiting so sometimes, it’s not worth it. I kind of figure it out by the trip.

    Do you drive between Seattle and Bellingham or fly with your DH? Sounds like you spend a lot of time on the road if you are driving.
