Building for the Future!
Remember when I told you about our new warehouse last year? Here’s an update: It’s still in progress. Building the warehouse was the quickest part; now we have to get sprinklers for ALL of Bramble Berry’s original 13,000 square foot warehouse and we have many other equally important projects that need completed before we can move in. We’re bursting at the seams so it’s a little maddening to gaze into that big empty building (I know it doesn’t look like it, but that’s 2700 square feet of empty space with huge ceilings to allow for full pallet racking). But we will be moved in there soon (ish?).
Meanwhile, inside we are expanding into the offices in the front part of the building (that we used to rent out to another business). When I originally bought this building, I knew I wanted room for Bramble Berry to expand…and (thanks to you guys!) expanding we are!
Upstairs, we’re pulling down the ceiling and insulation so that the sprinklers can be installed. And look what we found? Miles and miles and miles of old telephone and data cables (anyone looking for extras?). It looks like a disaster right now but when it’s finished, we’ll be equipped to serve our customers better – which is the silver lining and the light at the end of the tunnel for me. Running this project and keeping boxes shipping, has been no easy feat (but rest assured, we like a challenge – bring on the orders!).
Did Someone Say S.O.A.P?
What’s the S.O.A.P. panel you ask? Soap Opinion (Awesome) Panel members will receive 6-7 one ounce fragrance samples of my top floral choices for Spring 2011. Give the cutting-edge fragrances a sniff AND test them in any product you like (really, anything you want). Then fill out a survey to help distinguish the top choices. I want your honest opinion and notes on testing!
How to apply: Tweet, Facebook or Blog about your favorite Bramble Berry product (including links) and why you should be selected for the S.O.A.P. Panel. We’ll announce the finalists on Friday, February 18th so get your tweets, posts and blogs done by the 17th. Note: your Tweets should have @brambleberry someplace in the body of the Tweet but make sure they don’t just get directed directly to @brambleberry or else no one else can see them! =)
Fine Print: I will be sending out the fragrances by Wednesday the 23rd (at the latest) and I would like the surveys complete by April 4th, which gives you about 4 weeks to test the fragrances. Please keep these dates mind before you enter. I’m looking for an accountable and enthusiastic panel!

Martha, Martha, Martha!
Yay! I’m on Martha Stewart Living Radio on Sirius Satellite once again. I’ll be a guest on the Living Today show with Jamie Gwen (Sirius 112 and XM 157 at 10:30 a.m. PST/1:30 p.m. EST) TODAY (Wednesday). I have so many great projects I want to share. I hope I have time to share them all. See the full list below.
Chocolate Lip Balm using real Cocoa powder. I made this lip balm with Shea butter and Vitamin E oil for an extra rich and moisturizing feel.
Get everything you need (except the cocoa powder) to make these delectable lip balms.
Next up is my melt & pour soap project using repositionable rubber stamps. In addition to the step-by-step blog post, I also created a video on how to make these. They are easier than they look!
Get the ingredients you need to make these heart felt soaps.
Here I have my Champagne and clay face mask recipe. What a great way to use up any leftover Champagne and so refreshing for your skin!
Get the ingredients you need to make this from Bramble Berry (excluding the Champagne, of course).
And finally we have my Bath Bomb Cupcakes, the perfect calorie free gift for Valentine’s Day! In addition to the video tutorial, I also posted a blog with a price break down to show just how economical these little beauties can be.
Bramble Berry has a complete kit for making these adorable treats.
Etsy Finds For My Neck
I’m not sure what’s up with my latest Etsy Obsession – necklaces. Normally, I’m into soap and letterpress cards but necklaces have completely caught my eye lately. Here are three that I’ve purchased in the last couple of months. Between these and my Soap Queen necklace, I’m set for a very long time for neck ornaments.
I find that I go through phases on Etsy – earrings one month, stationary the next month, notebooks the following month … but the nice thing about Etsy (and Artfire) is that they have everything. And when I buy it, I know I’m supporting small indie producers which makes me happy. =)
Soap Intensive for One
Ralph, from Lebanon, after 3 fun days of soaping! |
We had a very special guest at Otion for a 3 Day Private Soapmaking Lesson. We were able to cram a lot of soaping into the class because Ralph was such a quick learner. He was a natural at soapmaking and covered all the types of soapmaking, all the types of molds he could use (including a nifty Vertical Mold that hasn’t even hit the Bramble Berry product line yet!), all the types of colors to use (including herbal infusions) and experienced a wide variety of soap situations (diluting Labcolors, seizing soap, accelerating trace soap to name a few).
Geode Soap from this tutorial |
Ralph spent almost an entire day on all of the ins and outs of melt and pour soapmaking, culminating with swirling and layering. But before we did that, we did the freeform Gem Soap. Both batches turned out great
.
Adding Fragrance (Cold Water) |
Ralph also learned how to make lotions from scratch and do Liquid Soap, from scratch. All of his bottles turned out perfectly and he and I both breathed a sigh of relief when none of his fragrance oils seperated or did anything funky in liquid soap (as they are prone to do). You can make your own liquid soap from scratch; we’ve got an ingredients + video + e-book tutorial here.

Our whipped CP soap, in-process |
We had a really good time with Whipped Cold Process soap and everyone enjoyed the Cotton Candy Look of the project.

Thanks for visiting Ralph! We can’t wait to host you again and this time, take a day to explore the sites (skiing anyone?).
