Did you get your 2009 Stocking Stuffer Kit yet? Yes, it comes with the label template to print out the labels below on your own printer. Make professional-looking candles, lotions and salt scrubs for your friends, family and co-workers and it couldn’t be easier! The hardest part will be choosing between our Sweet Kit and our Spice Kit. Check out the Tuesday’s post with the salt scrub recipe and Wednesday’s post with the candle recipe.
This lotion is easy to make as-is but our tips will make it even easier. To start, pour 16 oz. of Beeswax Lotion Base into a large plastic baggie and drop in 2 ml of Fragrance Oil. You have to really shake the bottle to get all the lotion out but even then, some is left in the bottle no matter how hard you shake. Seal the plastic baggie and mush it around with your hands to combine the ingredients. Once fully incorporated, snip off a small (small!) corner of the plastic bag and squeeze the lotion into the containers. Cap ‘em, label ‘em and give ‘em away!
Tip: If you want to split up the 2 fragrances between your lotion, just add 1 ml of fragrance oil to 8 ounces of lotion like we did. Works like a charm!

Hi BB!
My roommate bought some of your lotion base and we are getting a head start on lotion stocking stuffers for our family! I tried making some hot cocoa lotion and we both followed the directions listed here. Hers turned out just like the one above, but mine came out looking a bit like brains! Here’s a photo: http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4340/img0305te.jpg
She says maybe I put in too much fragrance but she doesn’t know for sure since this is her first time making lotion. It smells perfect but I used 1/2ml of FO (and a drop of brown color) in one of your 2 oz bottles. I emptied it out into a new bag and tried re-mushing the ingredients, but it still looked the same when I got it back into the bottle.
Is she right? Is too much FO what caused the weird texture? If I empty out the bottle and add more lotion, then split it between two 2oz bottles, will that fix it? I definitely don’t want to wrap it up and give it a way as is 🙂
Anne-Marie says
Easy to fix – To use this lotion base, warm the lotion base to 120 degrees in a fully disinfected container (5% bleach water or alcohol will disinfect your mixing containers). The lotion base will become the consistency of a melted milkshake. Add your fragrance at the recommended usage rate (typically .1 ounces of fragrance per 16 ounces of lotion) and stir until fully incorporated. Pour carefully into your containers. Let the lotion sit until it is room temperature prior to putting the cap on. The preservative system in this lotion starts to degrade at 170 degrees. Please ensure your lotion gets no warmer than 120 to 130 degrees during the heating phase.

Thank you! Sounds pretty easy – I’ll try doing it this way from now on.

If you were to add color, how much would you use?
Becky with Bramble Berry says
Good morning, Laura!
With coloring your lotions, we suggest sticking to LabColors and starting out with about 2-4 mL per ounce of product and going up from there. Remember that you do not want to put too much in because it can come off on the skin if you do! I hope this helps. 🙂

You only need that small amount of FO?

Hi G –
Thanks for your note. I'm sorry there are communication stressors with your order.
We received your six emails overnight. We are in Washington State (USA) and are in a different Country than you so the time zone makes it difficult to talk on the phone. We have already written back in four emails today and multiple emails yesterday.
We set up an order for you, sent your log in information to you and explained about the time difference via email.
We are closed on the weekends and were closed for Thanksgiving (Thursday Friday) as per the prominent note on our home page. I'm sorry that you missed that note.
I see that your order is downstairs in the warehouse being pulled and that you logged into your account at 10:15 a.m. today to finalize your payment.
I am delighted that you were able to finalize your order.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Regards,
Anne-Marie

Goodness, I wish I'd seen this or thought of this last year when I bought your lotions kit (which everyone I gifted loved, BTW). It is so much less messy than my using a funnel. LOL!
