During winter, everyone get a craving for fresh berries. But fresh berries are expensive off season. Don’t feel like paying an arm and a leg for a pint of blueberries? Make one of these Blueberry Tart Melt & Pour Soaps instead! Made with Blueberry Jam Fragrance Oil, they smell sweet and juicy.
First, a small layer of brown soap is poured into the Round (Cupcake) Silicone Mold to create the look of a crust. White soap is layered on top, and is finished with blueberry soap embeds and a soap drizzle. The “blueberries” on top are created with the Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold. For this project I used two Small 9 Ball Silicone Molds to create three blueberry embeds for each soap. If you only have one mold, create the embeds in two batches.
Because this soap does involve a few layers, I recommend having a spray bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol nearby. Spraying alcohol between the layers helps the soap stick together. It’s also great for getting rid of bubbles right after pouring. A thermometer is also handy for melt and pour layers. If the soap is too hot, it can melt the layer below. I recommend pouring the top layers around 120-130 degrees F to avoid melting.
What You’ll Need:
Round (Cupcake) Silicone Mold
2 Small 9 Ball Silicone Molds
5 oz. Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base
21 oz. White Melt and Pour Soap Base
0.6 oz. Blueberry Jam Fragrance Oil
Ultramarine Blue Color Block
Brown Oxide Color Block
Droppers
Optional: 99% Isopropyl Alcohol in Spray Bottle

ONE: Cut 5 oz. of Clear Melt and Pour Soap into small, even pieces. Place the soap in a heat-safe container and melt on 5 second bursts. Using short bursts prevents the soap from burning. Add shavings of the Ultramarine Blue Oxide Color Block until the soap is a rich blueberry color. Add 3 mL of Blueberry Jam Fragrance Oil and stir to fully incorporate. Pour the soap into the Small 9 Ball Silicone Molds and spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to pop any bubbles. You will have about 1.4 ounces of soap leftover to drizzle on top of each bar. Let the embeds fully harden and cool. This will take about 30 minutes to 2 hours. When they’re ready, unmold by pushing on the back of each cavity.
TWO: Chop 21 oz. of White Melt and Pour into small, even pieces. In a small heat-safe container, measure out 3 ounces of the white soap and melt on 5 second bursts. Add shavings of the Brown Oxide Color Block until you have a medium brown shade. Pour .5 ounces of soap into each cavity of the Round Silicone Cupcake Mold and spritz with alcohol to disperse any bubbles. You can place the mold on a scale to measure out the .5 ounces of soap, or just eyeball it.
THREE: While the brown layer hardens, add the remaining 18 oz. of White Melt and Pour Soap to a large heat-safe container and melt on 30-second bursts. Add 0.5 ounces of Blueberrry Jam Fragrance Oil and stir to fully incorporate. When the brown soap is hard and the white soap is 125-130 ° F (cool enough not to melt the brown soap), you’re ready to pour. Spritz the brown soap with alcohol so the layers stick, and pour the white soap on top. Leave about 1/2 inch of space in each cavity. This will be a third layer that will hold the blueberry embeds in place. Let the white layer harden, which will take 30 minutes to 2 hours.
FOUR: Reheat the remaining white soap on 10 second bursts. Spritz the top of the soap and the blueberry embeds with alcohol. Place three embeds on top of each bar. Then, slowly and carefully pour the white soap in until the cavity is full. Spritz with alcohol to disperse any bubbles. Let the soap fully cool and harden, which will take about an hour.
FIVE: Unmold by pressing the bottom of each cavity. Reheat the remaining blue soap on 5 second bursts. Spritz the top of the soap with alcohol and drizzle the blue soap on using a dropper. Then, spritz with alcohol again to pop any bubbles. There is no right or wrong way to do this, so have fun! Let the top harden for about 30 minutes and then enjoy! To avoid glycerin dew, wrap them immediately in plastic wrap, set them under a running fan or utilize another airtight packaging option.

Hello, I love this idea! I made this in the 4oz 12 Bar Round Silicone Mold https://www.brambleberry.com/12-Bar-Round-Silicone-Mold-P5214.aspx and used cream cheese frosting FO https://www.brambleberry.com/Cream-Cheese-Frosting-Fragrance-Oil-P3654.aspx and black raspberry vanilla https://www.brambleberry.com/Black-Raspberry-Vanilla-Fragrance-Oil-P4440.aspx that came with the kid friendly FO sampler kit (they smell amazing together!!) and used raspberries on top. Everything was going along great until the unfolding of the soap. when I looked on the side it you can see the layers of the soap where I had placed the berries on top and poured the other layer of soap on top of that is this normal when pouring soap of the same color on top of another layer after it has dried and see the layer where I did that? Can I prevent that from happening? I am still new to soaping and want to know if this is something to expect when making melt and pour? Thank you!! 😊

So glad you gave this project a try! I bet that fragrance blend smells awesome. Being able to see the two layers of melt and pour is normal. To lessen the effect in the future, you may try not waiting quite as long in between pouring the layers. Pouring the layer as soon as the layer below can support it may help as the layers will dry and harden at a closer rate.

I have two sizes of the ball molds – but only one mold of each size. I’m going to do this by creating two different sizes of “blueberries” and tuck these in for last minute Christmas gifts. I absolutely LOVE the Blueberry Jam fragrance oil. I used it last on a batch of cold process goat’s milk soak and it was absolutely a fabulous combination. The fragrance hangs on all the way through the whole bar. Yum!
Thank you all for such wonderful tutorials and ideas. You all and the great staff of Brambleberry have kept my head above water in a year that has been filled with some difficult times. I can always count on coming to this site to find encouragement and creativity. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

Hi, everybody. Even though I’m not a melt and pour fan, it still amazes me how much better homemade is than commercial made. Melt and pour has its own unique challenges and cold process/hot process (my favorite two) have their own unique challenges. Even so, I still love both processes better than commercial processes. At work we were packaging Christmas baskets for our clients and I read the ingredients on popular “beauty” bars. I recognized sodium tallowate and sodium cocoate and NOTHING else of the MANY ingredients on this “natural” beauty bar. I’ll stick to my own. I know what goes into it. Great tutorial, as always and thanks for everything! Merry Christmas to all my Christian friends and Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends!

Thanks so much Eric! Handmade is definitely the best option. Once you try handmade soap it’s hard to go back to store bought! 🙂
