For bronze-y skin care, take a look at the Shimmer Stick that came out in this week’s newsletter (didn’t get it? sign-up here!) It’s a super-pigmented solid bar that also imparts plenty of skin-loving moisture. It’s fragranced with Burnt Sugar Fragrance Oil, which features delicious notes of amber and vanilla. For more skin-loving goodness, take a look at the Coconut Cream Pie Cold Process tutorial. Made with 100% coconut water instead of distilled water, it’s a tropical soapy treat!
Sometimes all that glitters really is gold!
The final tutorial in our Bronze Series is the Beautiful Bronzing Lotion. Made with theΒ Aloe Lotion Base, this is a beginner recipe that can be made in a matter of minutes.
What You’ll Need:
8 oz. Aloe Lotion Base
2 tsp. Gold Sparkle Mica
1 tsp. Bronze Mica
5 mL Burnt Sugar Fragrance Oil
8 oz. Bottles (White Disk Cap)

ONE:Β In a bowl, portion out the lotion base.
TWO: Mix in the gold sparkle mica, bronze mica and 5 mL Burnt Sugar Fragrance Oil. Stir until thoroughly mixed in. We found using a whisk worked just fine, but you could also use a hand or stand mixer.
THREE: Transfer the lotion into a bottle, and enjoy!

Will this tint your skin like a self-tanner?
Kelsey says
Hi Shelley!
This recipe leaves a soft shimmer on the skin, and may make it a shade or two darker. However, it isn’t as strong as a self tanner. If you like, you can increase the Bronze Mica to get a darker color on the skin. I would recommend adding another 1/2 tsp. and testing the lotion on your skin. You can add more from there. π

Hi. Love the recipe. Question. Because this isn’t heated and made thinner first. How do you get it into the bottles effectively? Thanks!
Kelsey says
Hi Deb!
So glad you love the recipe! You can use a funnel or an Easy Pour Mixing and Measuring Container to get the room temperature lotion into the bottles: https://www.brambleberry.com/Easy-Pour-Mixing-and-Measuring-Container-P5428.aspx
If you like, you can also heat it for about 30 seconds to make it a little thinner. That way it pours into the bottle nicely. π

Could I use it for face or it would clog pores?
Also can I use alone aloe vera base for face?
thanks
Kelsey says
Hi Agata!
It depends a lot on your skin type! I use this on my face all the time and it feels great. However, if you have oily skin, it may be a bit too heavy. I would recommend trying a small dab of lotion on your face to see if you like the way it feels. π

Thank you so much!:)

Could I use this as a base for a tinted sunscreen or are there other recipes that would work better?
Kelsey says
Hi Elska!
The FDA considers sunscreen a drug, meaning it has to be tested and regulated. If you are going to make a sunscreen, I would recommend checking out the FDA website to find out more on the testing process: http://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/
The Etsy Updates Policy on Cosmetics Making Claims has more information on that as well: http://www.soapqueen.com/business/etsy-updates-policies-on-cosmetics-making-drug-claims/

I used Bramble Berry hydrating bath oil as my base ; 2 small droppers each of Green Tea extract and Chamomile both B B.
I use a lot and I think it will last a very long time . I made 2 oz and I still have a lot left . It does need to be shaken as the gold tends to drop to the bottom.

Hi Kay!
Hydrating Bath Oil was a product we used to carry. For this recipe, I would recommend using our Aloe Lotion Base. It’s a thick and creamy base that’s very moisturizing and won’t separate!

Ann says
Hi,
This lotion looks yummy!
What is the shelf life of this lotion?
for how long will it remain fresh?
Kay says
Hi Ann , The bronzing oil has not seemed to change and I use it regularly . It is very thin and I have to shake it before use ; not really a lotion .
It sinks in to my skin rapidly and there is no apparent residue.
I did add a little more bronzing powder for more shimmer.
Inexpensive to make and does the job.

Hi Kay!
In our recipes and tests, the lotion was thick and didn’t require any shaking. Do you mind if I ask what lotion base you used?
Let me know and we’ll get this figured out! π

Awesome !! This last 4th of july I mixed 4 Oz. of Bramble Berry hydrating bath oil with 2 small droppers full of Chamomile extract and 2 droppers of Green Tea extract (From B.B. ) scraped off some bronzing powder from a compact I rarely used and Viola` . I had a very nice bronzing oil that gave my skin a very subtle shimmer and will last a very long time.
I estimate the bronzing powder was about 1/8 of a teaspoon.
This disappears quickly into the skin and does not seem to rub off.
Enjoy !!

Hi Kay!
Thanks so much for sharing that recipe with us! Also, what a great way to recycle items you have on hand. π
