Handmade products don’t have to be complicated. This Turmeric Body Butter has just a few ingredients, but they’re all the right ones.
The main ingredient is new turmeric shea butter. It’s a natural mix of moisturizing oils and turmeric root extract, which leaves your skin feeling smooth. The butter is from the Hygge Collection, which includes comforting scents and giftable packaging.
Arrowroot powder is added to create a fluffy texture and so the butter doesn’t feel too greasy on the skin. The ginger essential oil blends wonderfully with the slightly spicy scent of the turmeric shea butter. The end result is a thick yet spreadable butter that is intensely hydrating.
The Turmeric Body Butter Labels give your jars a polished look so they’re ready to give to friends and family. The labels match perfectly with the Turmeric Clay Face Mask. The mask and body butter make a great gift set.

- Three 8 oz. Bail Jars
- 16 oz. Turmeric Shea Butter
- 3 oz. Coconut Oil
- 3 mL Ginger Essential Oil
- 2 Tbsp. Arrowroot Powder
- Place 16 ounces of turmeric shea butter into a large mixing bowl. Turn your mixer on medium and begin breaking up the butter. Continue to mix until it softens.
- Add 3 ounces of melted coconut oil to the mixing bowl. Use a spatula to mix in the coconut oil slightly.
- Turn the mixer on low and mix in the coconut oil. Gradually begin to increase the speed and mix for about 1 minute until the butter and coconut oil are combined.
- Add 3 mL of ginger essential oil and 2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder. Use a spatula to gently fold in the powder. Then, use the mixer to whip the butter for about another minute to fully incorporate all the ingredients.
- Use a spoon to transfer the butter into jars. To use, place a small amount of butter on dry skin and rub in to absorb. Store this butter in a cool, dry place. If you live in a very hot climate, you may want to store the butter in the fridge to prevent melting. Enjoy!

Can you replace the arrowroot powder with tapioca powder and get the same results? I have tapioca powder but do not have arrowroot powder. Thank you.
Terah with Bramble Berry says
Yes, the tapioca powder would also help to cut the greasy feel like Arrowroot Powder.

Does the Turmeric Shea Butter discolour your skin? I previously made a body butter using Turmeric powder and it left a slight orange tint to the skin.
Terah with Bramble Berry says
The Turmeric Shea Butter will not discolor the skin on its own. Though if you add more turmeric powder when making the body butter it may end up leaving behind some coloring depending on how much you use.

Hi there! I just got my ingredients for this and then disappointingly, I realized that I bought “Shea Butter” not the “Turmeric Shea Butter.” Is there a way to adapt the recipe to accommodate? I still have a little turmeric shea butter that I can appreciate it is much softer than standard shea butter.
Thank you!
Chloe with Bramble Berry says
Hi Rob, you can add some plain turmeric into the melted shea butter until you get a color similar to the turmeric but otherwise there is nothing you can really do to decrease how hard the regular shea butter is. You could add a bit more liquid oil to the recipe to make it softer overall though!

I made this body butter today….OMG! I’m in love, my family love the lavender body butter but after they use this one I know they will love it just as much. Especially the ones that suffer with super dry skin. I had extra in the bowl after I made it, my husband came and found him a small tupperware container to put it in and took it. He loves it already. Thanks I really enjoyed this one…followed the recipe no additions…the ginger essential oil really made a difference too!

Can you use regular Shea butter and substitute the essential oil for fragrance oil in this recipe?
Matt with Bramble Berry says
You definitely can sub in normal shea butter and use a different essential oil. Be sure that your usage rate is skin-safe for the EO that you choose, and you’ll have to think of a different name for your project since it won’t have turmeric in it. 🙂
La Dolcezza says
This looks great! Do you think I could use the tumeric shea butter in another one of the belly butters (like this one: https://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/bramble-baby-belly-butter/) Are the properties the same as regular shea butter? Do you think the scent would clash with the EOs?
Chloe with Bramble Berry says
It definitely does have the same properties so I don’t see why you couldn’t use it instead. It doesn’t have a super strong scent so I think it should be just fine!
Danielle Daley says
I want to make something that’s thicker than a lotion but thinner than a cream what can you suggest I do if I were you use your lotion recipe to make it slightly thicker?
Danielle Daley says
correction thinner than a “butter”… more creamy like
Chloe with Bramble Berry says
You can either add Stearic Acid to your lotions or reduce the amount of water to make the product thicker.
Tina says
I’d like to know to for a pumpable lotion.
Terah with Bramble Berry says
You would have to change the recipe quite a bit to make it thin enough to pump. You would need to make more of a lotion, not a body butter, with distilled water, emulsifying wax and a preservative.

Kari Follett says
I made this today and used bramble berry’s coconut oil. The end result was grainy, which I am assuming is from the Coconut. Any ideas as to why that would occur? It smells and feels amazing otherwise!
Terah with Bramble Berry says
The graininess would more likely be from the Turmeric Shea Butter. Shea Butter can become grainy, especially once it has shipped, if there were any temperature fluctuations.
You can prevent that by tempering your butter. Find out how to do that in this blog post towards the 4th paragraph:

Hi!!! Can I use rice powder instead of arrowroot powder? I can’t find arrowroot near my house in Brazil.
Thanks!
Chloe with Bramble Berry says
We haven’t tried rice powder but you can use Tapioca Starch if you are able to find that available as well.
