This month, you may notice more men sporting beards and mustaches. November is prostate-cancer awareness month and in order to raise awareness and funds, some men take part in No-Shave November, or Movember. Both organizations focus on growing out facial hair to spark conversation about the disease. No-Shave November urges men to donate the money usually spent on grooming products to the American Cancer Society.
These adorable Movember Mustache Melt and Pour soaps are a great project to raise awareness and take part in the hairy fun! Made with Shaving Melt and Pour base, these soaps can be used for the hands and body, and will be perfect for shaving once the month ends. Scented with Mahogany and Shave and a Haircut Fragrance Oils, these soaps smell wonderfully masculine.
What You’ll Need:
Guest Mini Mustache Mold
14 oz. Shaving Melt and Pour Base
Non Bleeding Black Oxide Color Block
Non Bleeding Brown Oxide Color Block
Non Bleeding Ultramarine Blue Color Block
Non Bleeding Perfect Red Color Block
3 mL Mahogany Fragrance Oil
3 mL Shave and a Haircut Fragrance Oil
Injector Tool
TWO: Using the Injector Tool, fill in three mustaches with black soap. Spray with alcohol to disperse any bubbles and allow to harden.
TIP: When using the injector tool, have a cup of hot soapy water nearby! This allows you to quickly clear out the soap in the injector tool between colors. If you don’t, the soap may harden in the injector tool and clog it.
THREE: Cut and melt 6 oz. shaving melt and pour in the microwave using 15 second bursts. Add shavings of the Red Oxide Color Block until desired red color is achieved.
FOUR: Add 3 mL of the Mahogany Fragrance Oil, and stir until the fragrance oil is thoroughly incorporated.
FIVE: Once the soap is around 120-125 °F, spritz the black mustaches with 99% isopropyl or rubbing alcohol, and pour the red soap on top. Spray with 99% isopropyl alcohol to disperse any bubbles and allow to cool.
SIX: Cut and melt 1 oz. shaving melt and pour base in the microwave using 5-7 second bursts. Add shavings of the Brown Oxide Color Block until a rich brown color is achieved.
SEVEN: Using the injector tool, fill in the remaining mustaches. Spray with isopropyl alcohol to disperse any bubbles and allow to harden.
EIGHT: Cut and melt 6 oz. shaving melt and pour in the microwave using 15 second bursts. Add shavings of the Ultramarine Color Block until desired blue color is achieved. Stir in 3 mL of Shave and a Haircut Fragrance Oil until thoroughly blended.
NINE: Once the blue soap is around 120-125 °F, spritz the brown mustaches with 99% isopropyl or rubbing alcohol, and pour the blue soap on top. Spray with 99% isopropyl alcohol to disperse any bubbles and allow to cool.
Allow the soap to fully harden and cool. To remove from the mold, use the palm of your hand to firmly press on the front of the mold to release the air lock. Enjoy!

Hi there! This is a GREAT shade of red. Looks true! How much of the color block did you use to achieve this level and will having that much (I’m guessing it took a lot because when I use the Perfect Red Color block I never get this vivid a red – always looks a little magenta kind of) affect the color of the lather? I’m thinking it might…..Just curious.

What if the mustache separates from the bar? The bar pooped out of the mold easily, leaving behind the mustache. Is there a way to adhere it after the fact?
Kelsey says
Hi Elizabeth!
Oh no! You may try melting down a small amount of melt and pour and putting it between the two layers. That may act as glue and keep them together.
Also, before you pour your second layer on the mustache, make sure to spritz it with alcohol. That will help the layers stick together. 🙂

Is the moustache mold appropriate for cold process? I love it & would to use it for that, I have been looking for one like this for awhile! If not, do you know where I can get a silicone one? Thanks!
Kelsey says
Hi Heather!
While these molds work great for melt and pour soap, they can work for cold process as well!
Make sure to keep your soap cooler than 145F, otherwise the plastic may warp. Also, it may take up to 1-2 weeks for the soap to unmold.
To speed up this process, you can use more hard oils in your recipe or add 1 tsp. of sodium lactate per pound of oils to your cooled lye water. That should help them pop out faster. 🙂
