We were so excited that our DIY Eye Shadow Kit hit the “Best Beauty Products of 2008” list by Beauty and Fashion Tech Blog.
Making my own mineral eye shadow was a bit messy, but also a heck of a lot of fun!
Wonder what you’re missing? You can buy the kit here.
Congratulations! I wanted to stop by and say thank you for visiting my blog and commenting on it.
Hi Ange1ia,
The beginner kits are primarily mica based. The mica for the naturals kit has been coated in pigments so it’s about 50% pigment, 50% mica.
You can always use pigments to make eye shadows (so long as they are eye safe) but they tend to need a lot of grinding and refining so that’s why we chose not to include pigments in the beginners kit.
The foundation kit, on the other hand, is all 100% pigments so people don’t end up looking too shiny with mica all over their face. =)
I hope this answers your question.
Congratulations! And making your own mineral makeup IS fun!
Anne-Marie,
I was wondering, speaking of mineral makeups, I was in the mall recently and was called over by a vendor to try their mineral base which he began to tell me their mineral base was 100% pure minerals which contained more pigment vs the popular national brand. I’ve not tired any of the mineral kits from Brambleberry but have been considering doing so. Can you comment on the pigment % which I understood him to say gave better coverage both in bases and eye shadows.

Congrats Anne-Marie! Making your own mineral eyeshadow does sound like loads of fun!
