I’m so excited! I just designed the curriculum for an Advanced Lotionmaking Class at Otion. It’s so new that you can’t even sign up for the class yet but I’m bursting with excitement (yes, I’m a geek) and couldn’t wait to share it with you. Plus, if you see any major holes in the subject matter, I trust you tell me.
Advanced Lotion Class: Have you mastered the basics of lotiomaking and you’re ready to take it to the next level? In this class, we’ll go over how to design your own recipe from scratch using %s, test several emulsion systems and briefly cover ingredients (cosmeceuticals) to turn your lotion into an anti-acne or anti-aging product. Finally, we’ll discuss the rules the FDA sets on making claims about your lotion or crème.
Class is $35
Students will leave with samples of crèmes and lotions from the class.
May 2nd, Saturday, 2 p.m. at Otion (in Bellingham, Washington)
Note: I’ll be teaching a similar class for the SoapGuild Conference this yearbut it is a shorter class and will probably not get to cover cosmeceuticals.

SoapQueenTV will be online at Soapqueen.com and/or SoapQueen.TV
Larona, let me know when you’re coming and I can put the class date up and see what we get for sign ups =)
Larona says
Anne-Marie, will you offer the advance lotion class this summer? I may coming to Seattle from Ghana and would love to take the class.
Joanna says
So, SoapQueen TV….will that be broadcasted….where exactly?

Others already asked my question (whether you’d be able to offer the clases via video), and I’m so thrilled to read your answers! I don’t mind the wait; it’s a lot more doable for me than traveling.

Laura, I don’t know of any information on other classes going on around the world. It’s a very specialized field and besides Otion, I don’t know of any other hands-on creativity centers specializing in soaps and lotion.
Enchanted, Eventually, I’ll be doing intense classes via webcam, SoapQueenTV, and private blogs so that I can help bring the more difficult and unique classes into everyone’s homes. That’s at least a year away though. I want to do it “right” so we’re playing with the technologies available to us right now =)

Anne-Marie,
Would you be able to film classes and sell them? There are so many of us that would love to be in your classes but live too far away.
Laura says
Gah! It sounds like such fun. 🙁 As lelah asked – is there any information somewhere on other classes across the country – or even world? Maybe there could be a list on the TeachSoap Forum we could all post to. (Not that I want Otion to lose any business – but I would love to take a cold process class local to me! Flights from Boston to Brambleberry ain’t cheap… 😉

Hi Kattybel –
I wish you could come to Otion. Wouldn’t that be so much fun!? I don’t know of anyone in the Caribbean who is teaching classes but hopefully SoapQueenTV will help fill this void for you.
Lelah – I don’t of anything in the NYC area that does what we do. =( I’m sorry. But if you’d like to open an Otion over there, I’d love to talk to you about that! =)
Brigette, I am SO thrilled that you got to hang out in the Etsy class. Wasn’t that a marathon of a class? But, a total blast. We are going to have advanced (paid) classes that utilize video, live chat and a private blog. That’s definitely in the works.

A Soap Queen geek is a good thing. 🙂
Anne-Marie, I have fiddled with different percentages of emulsions, but I think this class will go beyond what I have experimented with. I hope at some point you can share it with all of us that do not have a class to attend.
And, yes, this is exciting!
lelah says
Oh Anne-Marie! You kill me with these classes! Do you know of a NYC area group that does the same thing as you? Or do you ever have a plan to do an Advance Lotion DVD? I would love it if you did a DVD. I would pay $35 for that!
Kattybel says
Hi Anne Marie!!
I live in Puerto Rico, and I can’t go to Otion to take your classes ( I wish I Could)…Do you think you can so something for us the Caribbean people who follow you and love your products? I wish you could, I know you can!!
