The recipe:
Sweet Almond Oil – 5 oz.
Avocado Oil – 5 oz.
Castor Oil – 4 oz.
Rice Bran Oil – 5 oz.
Olive Oil – 18 oz.
Shea Butter – 5 oz
Coconut Oil – 18 oz
Water – 12 oz (I did a discount since I have all of the soft oils)
Lye – 8.4 oz

Colorants: Fired up Fuchsia, Tangerine Wow!, Fizzy Lemonade, Blue Mix LabColor, Ultraviolet Blue, Cappuccino Mica, Super Pearly White Mica

Mold: Wood Mold with Silicone Liner

Fragrance: Energy and Moroccan Mint.

Naturally Colored Eye Candy

These soaps are all made using the cold process technique and colored with natural colorants (think Activated Charcoal, Alkanet, Annatto Seed, Calendula, Maddar Root, Paprika, Spirulina, etc). Can you believe some of these designs? I was totally blown away with the quality of entries in this particular Make it Monday contest. Sun Print Soaps by Simona

This soap evokes childhood memories of summer art projects. One of my favorites, a treat, was using Sun Print paper. Depending on how much paper we had, we’d spend hours collecting and doing practice arrangements – you have to be quick with the set up to achieve the “best” print. We’d run around the house and yard to gather various plants, feathers, keys and other fun and funky shaped objects. A patch of driveway would be selected and we’d layout our sheet, arranging our found objects just so on the paper. After carefully setting the glass onto the arrangement we’d anxiously watch and wait for the blue to turn to white. Then we’d run to the hose to “process” our masterpiece, watching the white turn back to blue where our objects were not.

A Palm Free In-The-Pot Swirl

Despite our recent weeks of summer fun, fall is definitely in the air in the Pacific Northwest. I’m ready to leap into fall with this seasonal color palette and in-the-pot swirl soap. Check this out if you’ve been on the hunt for a great palm-free recipe, and check out another palm free recipe here and here. This recipe turns out super hard and the bubbles are medium in size with an easy rinse-off.

20.0 oz Coconut Oil

40.0 oz Rice Bran Oil

8.3 oz Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)

19.8 oz Distilled Water

3.5 oz Earl Grey Lemon Fragrance Oil

3 teaspoons Merlot Mica

2 teaspoons Super Pearly White

1 teaspoon Cellini Blue Mica

1 teaspoon Cellini Yellow Mica

Color Block Rainbow Soap Tutorial

This fun and whimsical soap is perfect for anyone a little unsure of working with powder colorants because it uses Color Blocks! Color Blocks are pre-mixed, intensely colored little nuggets of soap. You just shave off a bit to get the color you want and mix it into your melted soap. There’s no pre-mixing with oils or glycerin and the colors work well every time. For this project, we went rainbows mixed with books; the colorful stacked blocks embedded in white soap kind of remind me of a perfectly disheveled book shelf. Stacks of read and well-loved books are one of my favorite sights ever (and you can always see what I’m currently reading here).

Rainbow Spheres

We spent a super fun but slightly grey week in one of our favorite getaway spots (family pictures to come soon!) and upon my return, these great little soaps were on my brain. Playing with the Bath Bomb Maker

This is especially true when taking on a completely new and mechanically unique product like the Bath Bomb Maker (and eh hem, not all of us on the CS team are mechanically inclined, cough cough). So when the newest member of the Bramble Berry product line arrived, you better believe that our customer service team jumped on the chance to play with it. We made a half-day bath bomb party out of it (whoo hoo! Luxurious baths for all!). If you’re like me, seeing products in action is better than still photos so we also filmed a quick video demonstrating how the Bath Bomb Machine works.
