Three Tiered Cupcake anyone?

Head over to Crazy About Cupcakes to learn how to make them. If you do take the plunge, please take a photo and send it over. This idea seems amazingly “Wow Factor” complex.

Cupcake Royale is doing a Cupcake Harvest Festival in Seattle right now. It’s a great community event so if you are in Seattle area, be sure to stop by one of their stores (Ballard, Madrona & West Seattle). You’ll have to see what the cupcake gathering squirrels drug in.

As for me, I will be trying a 3-tiered cupcake this week. Norman, our fabulous COO, has been with Bramble Berry for a full eight years. He will be getting a well-deserved recognition party, complete with cupcakes baked by moi and a present. Pictures of the cupcake experiments will be forthcoming this week.

Rain and Thunder in Bellingham

Pumpkin Cupcakes

Fall is here and it’s rainy blustery day in Bellingham. Chris and I are huddled under blankets on the couch, reading. This delightful confectionery creation by Clares Cupcakes in the UK makes me want to snuggle up with a cup of hot buttered rum, one of these delicious cupcakes and not move off this couch for hours.

Then again, I just looked out our window overlooking Lake Samish and saw two kayakers paddling by in the middle of a torrential downpour, complete with thunder for sound effects. Perhaps I’m just too lazy and need to expand my horizons off the couch.

Either way, these cupcakes would be for a great reward after a drenching kayak workout or a sweet afternoon couch snack.

Choco Choco House

Thank you to Deb G for sending me this link to Choco Choco House in MA. Oh how I wish I was visiting MA, at least for a time long enough to jet over to their shops, inhale a cupcake and take a pack of the handbags to go.

Aliya’s real claim to fame is her chocolate handbags. The handbags are so cute that they were even sold at the Museum of Natural History during their chocolate exhibition.

They ship mail order ever Wednesday if you simply must get your own chocolate handbag to munch on.

Birthday Empowerment

A few weeks ago, my dear friend Amy (that’s her, 2nd from the right in the red top) turned… Well, she had a special birthday. Rather than the traditional party, Amy planned an entire weekend around strong women. She designed a trust walk around a local lake, an evening of sharing (complete with tears and personal revelations) and a assigned a morning activity around balance and strengths. Each person who attended had a part to play and a leadership role to fulfill.

We all went to Vancouver (Canada) for Thai Food, raucous laugher and strong bonding. The gals were kind enough to let me stop by Open Sundaes, one of my fave bath and body producers. Check out their web site here.

My assignment was the Balance Activity. I led the women through an exercise similar to what my friend Lynn Guiliani from Progressions Coaching guides busy executives through. In summary, the exercise had each participant go through their goals in life and compare those goals to how they are living their life currently. Where there were deficiencies, an achievable plan was designed to help everyone easily meet their goals in small, bite-sized goals.

“Small” means manageable. The goals are not superwoman goals. They are easy steps to work towards achieving whatever is important in our lives. For example, one of my goals was to meditate for 15 minutes, just 3 times a week. It’s a tiny goal on the face of it but will get me closer to my larger goals.

It wasn’t all work though! Here we are, goofing around in the middle of the street, in Vancouver BC after walking, shopping and cupcake eating.

Bath Cupcakes – Frosting Update

Thank you to Barb at Honey Grove Botanicals for this hint:

I am still experimenting with the icing, but for now this is working.
I added 2 tablespoons of sodium lauryl sulfoacetate and 2 tablespoons
of baking soda to the icing recipe that you posted. I added 2-3
tablespoons of additional water to smooth it out. I use a hand mixer
on high to add more air. The icing still needs to be crumbled under
running water but it adds to the bubbles and is less resistant.

Here is a photo of Barb’s cupcakes.

The icing looks like icing and Barb thinks if she whips the icing for longer, she can even get it to be as fluffy as the original non-SLS frosting cakes.

I finally had a cupcake! After a four week dry spell, our friends Jennifer & Scott had Cupcake Royale cupcakes at their wedding reception tonight. Bless them.

I devoured a Red Velvet cupcake as soon as it was polite to do so. I made sure I wasn’t the first one to take a cupcake from the giant stack of fluffy goodness.

I was the third.

The Red Velvet cupcake was so good that um, I had another.

I snuck up on the cupcake table in stealth mode. I didn’t go straight over. I talked to one group, talked to another group, did a side samba over to the table and quick as a jackrabbit, made my move!

I grabbed the Barbie Cupcake, did a graceful pirouette away and scurried off to the corner where I hid my face from the crowd and savored my ill-gotten gains.

I barely made it through the second cupcake. I felt a little green. But, I persisted (insert clapping and crowd cheers here). And, it was good.

My diet starts tomorrow.

Happy Saturday! It’s a rainy, overcast day in Bellingham but since that’s an every day event here, Chris and I are going about the day like it’s warm, sunny and beautiful.

We’re headed to a local park for a picnic (cooking the pasta salad right now). We’re also dragging kayaks along. I suspect that we’ll be the fools in the middle of the rainy lake, fighting the winds, all in the spirit of “Having Fun” and “Fully Enjoying The Summer.”

I’m excited to finish my posts on the Choco Balm so look for a few more of those over the weekend. That is, if my frozen hands can type after our rainy day kayaking foray.
