The first project in this series were cold process soap favors. It uses the 36 Bar Birchwood Mold and the Guest Dividers for 36 Bar Birch Mold to make 72 guest sized bars. The soap uses Electric Bubble Gum Colorant for a light pink color and is dusted with Gold Sparkle Mica. They are scented with Lily of the Valley Cybilla Fragrance Oil for a light floral smell. The best thing about this project is it only takes about 1-2 hours to make 72 bars! If you’re having a smaller wedding, that might cover all the favors. Just make sure the soaps are made 4-6 weeks ahead of time to allow them to cure.

If you’re not a cold process soap maker, there are plenty of project options. One of the easiest are Nail Polish Wedding Favors. To make nail polish, all you have to do is add the colorant of your choice to the Suspending Nail Polish Base and shake, shake, shake! Soaks and scrubs are another quick and easy project, which is perfect if you need to make a lot of them. In the DIY Soaking Salt & Scrub Wedding Favor Tutorial, avocado oil is combined with Dead Sea salt. The soaks are customized with two different scent and color combinations  Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil with Rose Gold Mica and Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil with King’s Gold Mica. These soaks can also be used as scrubs by applying the salt to damp skin and scrubbing.

If you prefer home crafts, candles make a great gift. Who doesn’t love a candle? To fit with the rose and gold theme, half of the DIY Wedding Favor Candles are colored with a Red Wax Dye Block for a light pink color. The pink candles are scented with Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil for guests who prefer a sweet scent, and the white candles are scented with Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil for a more masculine option.

Don’t leave the guys at your wedding or party feeling left out. Beard oil is incredibly easy to make, and helps tame even the burliest of facial hair. The recipe contains fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil and argan oil for a lightweight and skin-loving formula. The oil can also be used as a massage oil, bath oil, hair serum or facial oil. Beard oil makes the perfect gift for groomsmen.

To give your favors a polished look, we created these DIY Wedding Labels. The template is free. Simply download the template and print the labels on card stock or Waterproof Labels. The download includes labels for candles, handmade soap, soaking salts and beard oil. There is also a blank template if you’d like it to customize the label.

If you have a lot of wedding favors to create, the task can seem a bit daunting. I recommend keeping the project simple to avoid unwanted stress. When you need to make a lot of individual favors, soaking salts are a great option. Simply mix the salts with colorant, fragrance and a small amount of oil to create adorable gifts. Best of all, you can make them well ahead of time or days before if need be.

For this project, I created ten jars at once using two different scent and color combinations to make five jars of each. One combination features Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil and Rose Gold Mica for a feminine option. The other combination uses King’s Gold Mica and Tobacco & Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil for a more unisex or masculine choice. These soaking salts can also be used as a body scrub by applying it to damp skin rather than adding the salts to bath water.

What You’ll Need:
Ten 4 oz. Plastic Bail Jars
40 oz. Fine Grained Dead Sea Salt
3 oz. Avocado Oil
0.4 oz. Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil
0.4 oz. Tobacco & Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil
King’s Gold Mica
Rose Gold Mica
12 mL Optiphen

TWO: Add the Optiphen and continue to mix until it’s thoroughly mixed in.
Note: Although this soak/scrub doesn’t contain water (which is the key component to mold growth), the scrub will likely get water splashed in it during normal use. The extra water may cause bacteria and mold to grow. We added a preservative to this recipe to be extra careful. You can read more in the Talk It Out Tuesday: Preservatives post.

THREE: Split the salts in half. This way, you can add different color and scents. If you are only making one color and scent, do not split the batch. To one half, add the Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil and 1/2 tsp. King’s Gold Mica. Use your hands or spatula to thoroughly mix in.

FOUR: To the other half of salts, add 1/2 tsp. Rose Gold Mica and a pinch of King’s Gold Mica to create a slightly warmer tone. Then add the Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil and use your hands or a spatula to thoroughly mix in.

FIVE: Fill each jar with salts. To use as a scrub, apply to damp skin and use circular motions to gently exfoliate. This scrub would be great for legs, body, hands and feet, but might be a little scratchy for the face. To use as soaking salts, scoop a heaping spoonful of the salts into hot bath water. Enjoy!

Simply apply a few drops of the oil directly to the beard and skin to make it look shiny and well kept. This formula can also be used directly on skin, hair, or as a bath oil. To make the process of creating beard oil even easier, the Beard Oil Base is a premixed beard oil formula. The oils are already measured and mixed; all you need to do is customize the base with a fragrance or essential oil of your choice. Then your oil is ready to label and use! This beard oil would make a fabulous gift. In particular, I have heard of soapers making beard oil as wedding favors for the guys.

Making your own wedding favors can seem a little daunting, especially if you’re having a large wedding. My biggest piece of advice is to give yourself plenty of time. Crafting at the last second can be stressful. I also recommend choosing a project that suits your skill level. Wedding favors may not be the best time to try an advanced project if you’re a beginner. =)

Candles are a great favor option. They are relatively quick and easy to make, and who doesn’t love a candle? For this tutorial, I made five candles featuring two different color and scent combinations. One candle is scented with Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil and colored a light pink for a feminine option. The other is uncolored and scented with Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil.

The recipe and tutorial below makes ten candles total. If you need to make a lot more, you may consider melting your wax in a large sauce pot over medium-low heat. This way, you can use a larger container than what may fit in your microwave. Then, use a ladle or smaller container to pour the hot wax into each candle container to cool and harden. I recommend pouring the wax on a counter space where the candles can cool and harden without moving them. Once the hot wax is in the container, moving the candles can be tricky!

What You’ll Need:
10 Candle Tins
40 oz. EcoSoya Advanced Soy Wax
10 WU-250 Brown Cotton Candle Wicks
1.6 oz. Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil
1.6 oz. Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil
Red Wax Dye Block

ONE: Melt down 40 oz. of EcoSoya Advanced Soy Wax in the microwave using a heat safe container. You can also melt the wax in a saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat. Once melted, add a few drops of wax into the bottom of each candle tin, and place the wick into the center of the candle. Cover the top of the wick with more wax to steady the wick to the bottom of the container.

TWO: Split the wax into two containers, each will weigh about 20 ounces. To one batch, add 1.6 ounces of the Tobacco and Bay Leaf Fragrance Oil. Stir thoroughly.

THREE: To the other container, add 1.6 ounces of Sweet Pea Fragrance Oil and use a spoon to thoroughly mix in. Then, shave a very small amount of the Red Wax Dye Block using a cheese grater. Add the shavings to the melted wax and stir. The heat from the melted wax will melt and Red Wax Dye Block and give the wax a light red color. As the wax cools and hardens, it will lighten to pink. You can test the color by dropping the wax on a white piece of paper and allowing it to cool. Add more dye block shavings if you’d like a richer color.

FOUR: Allow the wax containers to cool slightly. Cut 10 straws in half and slide the wicks into the straws. This will help steady the wicks in the center of the jar after the wax is poured. 

FIVE: Allow the melted wax to cool to about 110 ° F or cooler. The cooler the wax is, the less likely it will be to melt the wax holding the wick in place. Then, pour the red wax into half of the candle tins, and the uncolored wax into the other half. Allow to thoroughly cool and harden. 

When the candle is cool, trim the wicks and allow the candle to cure for 48 hours. This allows the fragrance to set up properly. Enjoy!

Hi there soapy mavens! My name is Jen and I write a wedding blog called Something Turquoise, the only wedding blog that truly embraces the DIY bride. That is why I have the pleasure of being here on Soap Queen during DIY wedding week!

I would personally call myself a hardcore DIY-er, but I completely understand if you are not. So let’s say you are a creative bride who wants to make a few special things to give that unique touch to your wedding day, but without burning your fingers on a hot glue gun or breaking the bank on crafting tools you might not use again. Well you are in luck, because today I’m breaking down the 5 easiest projects to DIY for your wedding!

In discussing these 5 projects, I want you to keep in mind that I’m not telling you to arrange your own flowers, make your own invitations or sew your own dress, because those details are large scale projects that will take specialized expertise and lots of time. The ideas below are easy because they are not only quick, but you also don’t have to make a ton of them (like favors). Many brides think making favors is easy – and although the favor itself might be easy to create, you’ll still have to make anywhere from 100-200 of them. The details I’m showcasing pack a special punch and will make your day ultra personal without making you go DIY crazy. How detailed you get with these items is up to you and your skill level, but any type of crafty bride will be able to execute these ideas with ease!

1. WILL YOU BE MY BRIDESMAID GIFTS
This is an absolute must now a days, so you might as well get creative with it! Take a little extra time to handcraft something special for your besties because you know they’ll truly appreciate it. Whether assembling a large gift box packed full of fun items or just a special handmade card, your love will shine through this project. You can easily search Pinterest or Google for great ideas that will fit your theme and style. Many sites, like mine, even offer free printable designs!

2. MR. & MRS. RECEPTION CHAIR SIGNS
This is such a sweet new trend! Making your own “Mr. & Mrs.” or “Bride + Groom” or “His and Hers” reception chair signs can be SO easy! They could be made of anything from recycled wood to craft paper and ribbon. It’s easy to take ideas that you find online and morph them into something that will perfectly match your theme and the chairs they will be hanging on. I love this project because it’s a quick one since you only have to make two and it will make for the most darling pictures!

3. YOUR “SOMETHING BLUE”
The “Something old, new, borrowed and blue” tradition is my favorite; hence my blog name “something turquoise“. This is a little detail that you can really have some fun with! Again, super simple because it’s just one little thing – and super sweet for pictures. From blue embroidery, blue nails, a blue heart sewn inside your dress, a sweet DIY keepsake charm, or maybe even painting the bottom of your shoes blue (my fav!!!) – craft something special for your something blue that speaks to you and your personality.

4. GUEST BOOK!
Yes – the guest book! No longer do we need to have the old-school book that our parents did, where their guests just wrote their names on the first few pages which is now in a box in the attic somewhere with cobwebs. No offense to them. Your guest book is the perfect opportunity to create a super special, unique keepsake. Again, you only have to create one – and because all your guests will see and touch it – it’s the perfect item to DIY. Get creative and brainstorm with your groom about what interactive idea best represents you as a couple and what item you will actually enjoy after your wedding!

5. TABLE NUMBERS
To me, this is the best project to DIY hands down. In thinking of items that will make an impact on your guests – table numbers are a big one! Table numbers after all are how your guests find their seat for the night. There are loads of amazing options out there for creative table numbers but you have to look at your wedding theme, personality and relationship to see what will work best. This last idea happens to be the largest project on the list (but is so totally doable) since you will be making 10-20ish numbers. Send your guests to their seats in crafty DIY bride style!

If you’ve never made nail polish before, it couldn’t be easier. In a nail polish bottle, simply add the mica of your choice, a mixing ball and the Suspending Nail Polish Base. Then shake, shake, shake to disperse the color! Then it’s ready to use. You can also add pigments to the nail polish base as shown in the Anti-Pinch Nail Polish, but if using pigments, they do need to be mixed in isopropyl alcohol first to get rid of clumps.

What You’ll Need:
10 Rectangle Nail Polish Bottle
10 Nail Polish Mixing Balls
4 oz. Suspending Nail Polish Base
Gold Sparkle Mica
Rose Gold Mica
.15 CC Scoop

ONE: Place a nail polish mixing ball into each bottle. Then, to five of the bottles add 15 mini scoops of the Gold Sparkle Mica. If you’d like a more sheer color you can add less. Continue scooping the polish until each bottle contains Gold Sparkle Mica.

TWO: In a well-ventilated space and nowhere near a significant heat source or flame, pour the nail polish base slowly into the nail polish bottles. Fill until just below the shoulder of the bottle to allow for mixing room. If you spill, use an old rag to wipe the neck of the bottle. If you forget to do this, your lid may “glue” itself to the bottle. Please note that nail polish is extremely flammable and should never be customized near any open flame or extremely hot heat source (say, a stove or something like that).

THREE: Once each bottle is full, place the brush into the bottle and twist the black cap over it until you hear a “click.” Once the cap is securely on the bottle, start shaking! Shake the bottle for 3-5 minutes to fully disperse the colorant into the nail polish base.

FOUR: Repeat this process for the pink polish. Add a mixing ball to each bottle, then add 15 scoops of the Rose Gold Mica. Carefully fill each bottle with nail polish base. Then insert the brush, cap and place the rectangle decorative outer cap. Then, shake until the mica is thoroughly mixed into the base.
