The week ended in such sadness with the Paris terrorist attacks. Our thoughts remain with everyone there.
Earlier in the week, this blog was all about color, whether the palette is rustic and natural or bright and vibrant. There are several tricks to make sure your soap has vibrant color. For instance, some micas can fade in cold process soap. Make sure to check the descriptions on Bramble Berry before choosing a color to make sure it stays well in cold process soap. Gel phase – when the soap gets really hot and gelatinous – helps colors pop as well. Get more tips in the How to Get Vibrant Colors in Soap post.

This week was full of tips, tricks and new soapy techniques. One thing we get asked about a lot is making bath fizzies and bombs. It’s so fun to make them, but it does take a bit of practice. The bath bomb mixture needs to be wet enough to stay together, but not so wet that it starts to fizz early. Click through the Bath Bomb Questions & Answers post to learn how the get the right texture, what colorants to use, how to package the fizzies and more.

Before we get into the recap of the week, I wanted to take a moment to remember all those who were affected by the tragic events that took place on September 11th, 2001. I’d also like to thank all the heroes who helped rebuild New York City afterward, and the heroes that continue to keep us safe. I think Rudy Giuliani put it best when he said, “The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified.”
This week continued the “all things fall” theme with the Pumpkin Pie Melt and Pour Soap. Inspired by the release of Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte, the bars are scented with spicy and sweet Pumpkin Pie Candle & Soap Fragrance Oil. To match the smell, the Perfect Orange Color Block is used to give the Goat Milk Melt and Pour Soap Base a creamy orange hue. It even has a bit of cinnamon added for a realistic look.
