Soap Queen TV: Gingerbread Man Soap

This gingerbread man soap project has been a favorite of mine for years and is one of the most popular kits at Bramble Berry. Our gingerbread man soap mold is easy to use and the results are always adorable. I couldn’t resist sharing this classic project, but I wanted to give it fresh, new twist. So I created a little box template that fits the soap perfectly and gives a nice finishing touch as a gift.

To make the soap you can just purchase the kit here or get these ingredients individually:

Does anyone have exciting plans for the weekend? My plans you ask? I’ll be filming SoapQueen.TV. Follow me on Twitter so you can catch all the fun updates. The Bramble Berry team and I always have a blast on filming days. We usually have great muchies to snack on and we get the (uncontrollable) giggles at least 10 times through out the day. And, there will be cupcakes included in those munchies since my favorite cupcake place is at the Farmer’s Market tomorrow. I am really hoping for chocolate mint or red velvet … (drool)

In the sad news category, Fresh Baked Bread has doubled in price and will have to be discontinued when current stocks run out. It is truly one of my all time favorites so it breaks my soapy heart to do it but … get it while it lasts.

Finally, I made some soap yesterday with a really fascinating blend. I think it smells smashing but to be honest, one of the gals in the office swears it smells like diaper cream. I disagree but if you try it and think the same, don’t say I didn’t warn you:

2 parts Neroli

1 part Wasabi

2 parts Fresh Zucchini Flower

2 parts Spearmint

Fresh and herbaceous … or diaper cream. You be the judge.

Gradated Layers on Soap Queen TV

This is the last video in our Melt & Pour series on Soap Queen TV. We’re going to take a little break before we come back with our next series in the Fall. What do you want to learn about? I know I’ve said this before but just to remind you – we really want to hear your suggestions!

In this episode I use the layering technique from Episode 12 and the embedding technique demonstrated in Episode 4 to create some adorable soaps. I also show you 2 new techniques for getting perfectly even layers and gradating soap colors to go from dark to light. I hope this episode inspires you to mix and match some of the techniques we’ve covered in the last 15 episodes of Soap Queen TV.

From Screen to Reality

I love (love, love, love, love, love, love) seeing SoapQueenTV and SoapQueen-inspired ideas out on the marketplace. It’s even better when the soaper flat out says that our soap’spiration inspired them to make cool works of soap art.

Here are a few that I came across this week. First up, from the TeachSoap Forum, Honey from Ireland tried the Rubber Stamp Technique from this post. The soap she came up with looks great! What an easy way to personalize a wedding, a birthday or a retirement gift.

Then ‘SingingWolf‘ from the forum (and frequent commenter at SoapQueen.com) tried the Fortune Cookie Soaps from SoapQueen.TV Independence Day Episode and did a great job. They were for a present for her boss and she says, ‘Folks were crowding around my boss’s desk, sniffing at the birthday presents that were stacked up‘. Sweet! That’s just what we like to read.

Hallie made these Geometric Soaps below and they look great! She says ‘I think I’ve learned my lesson about dry pigments instead of handy pre-mixed and non-bleeding options. But otherwise, this came out just about as I hoped it would. (I was aiming for off-kilter.)‘ I’d say she got off-kilter and absolutely stunning. The color choices are great. Also with the Geometric Inspiration, Kayla sent us this photo of her rainbow soap. The yellow is a great touch. She said, ‘This was so fun. I loved making it.‘

This week’s episode takes embedding to the next level. I make a fun and bubbly soap using a unique ice cube tray and fun colors like teal, pink and yellow.

New York Adventures

Yesterday was a jam packed day that had all the best elements New York City has to offer. I spent the day talking to magazine editors about how they could utilize Bramble Berry products and projects in upcoming editions of their magazine. It’s hard to know how those went because they’re a little like job interviews; you bring samples, you put your best foot forward and then you hope they call.

What I know went well was Martha Stewart Living Radio. I was on with host Mari o Bosquez from Living Today. He’s been gracious enough to have me on the show three times now and it felt like coming to visit a good friend. We talked about Flexy Fast (I even made some on the air) and upcoming episodes of SoapQueen.TV He was pretty excited about what I have in store for you this week. The best part of the show for me was that 7 soapmakers called in with questions. It was so gratifying to have people call in to talk about soap. We had questions on essential oil usage, safe disposal of lye, non-bleeding colors and Gillian (the winner of the ‘Best in Show’ at the Soap Guild Conference this year) even called in with a question on combining melt and pour and cold process. The 30 minute segment went by in the blink of an eye. I am so thankful for the opportunity to talk to more soapers and hopefully introduce a wider audience to the joys of soap.

I ended the evening with an amazing show – Billy Elliot, the Musical. Elton John wrote the music for this powerful and moving story about a young boy following his dreams. It received 10 Tony Awards. It was a totally packed house and the audience gave the actors a standing ovation several times; the show was that good.

Finally, I neded the evening in traidtional tourist way – in Times Square getting a dorky photo of myself taken. It’s very warm and humid.

Today, I’m headed to New Jersey to meet with some teen magazine editors to talk about our DIY Eye Shadow, Foundation and Lipstick kits. The combination of those plus the DIY Perfume kits would make a great slumber party.
