Kat from Bramble Berry’s retail store, Otion, was inspired to make this honeycomb soap technique using bubble wrap. Using bubble wrap has long been a staple in the cold process soapmaking world but in melt and pour, it’s just catching on. This soap is earthy, eye-catching, easy and a great way to reuse your packaging! This project can be made by the most novice of soap makers and all you have to do is line your mold with bubble wrap to get this cool effect. Ingredients
1 Pound Honey Melt-and-Pour Base
4ml Oatmeal, Milk and Honey Fragrance
1 Mini Scoop Honeyed Beige Mica
Bubble Wrap and Scissors
Paper Towel and Gold Sparkle Mica for rubbing over the surface
Yeilds: 4 bars of soap
Get everything you need for this project in the click of a button!
PREP: Wash your bubble wrap with warm soap and water and let it dry before making your soap.
ONE: Cut your bubble wrap into squares that fit in the cavity and line your mold.
TWO: Melt the soap base and stir in color (just the yellow and honeyed beige) and fragrance. Pour into lined mold.
THREE: Let harden, remove soap from mold and peel back bubble wrap to reveal the textured surface.
FOUR (optional): Tap a mini scoop of Sparkle Gold Mica onto a paper towel and rub it lightly across the surface to create shine that reflects in the light, enhancing the pattern.
PS – This soap would be scrumptious with our Honey Ale fragrance as well.
this sound like a good soap, I was wondering if you sell “kits” I guess you would call them minus the molds I kinda lost interest in tracking down the ingredients just to make it easier. I need to find some pretty good sellers for my wifes craft show coming up no time for cp soaps thanks

We have a huge variety of kits, both cold process and melt and pour, on Bramble Berry! The kits include everything you need to make the specific project. Once all the items are in your cart, you can delete certain items that you don’t need (ie: the mold).
If you are interested in this soap specifically, you will see a button that says “But It Now” under the list of ingredients. This will automatically place everything in your cart, and you can edit it from there.

I’m so glad you’re going to give this recipe a try 🙂 The great thing about melt and pour is that it does not require a cure time like cold process does. I would recommend letting your soap harden in the mold for several hours. Once it is hard and cooled throughout, you can pop it out of the mold and it’s ready to use! 🙂

I only have clear m&p. Can I add honey to it?
I plan on adding milk and honey fragrance, and some bronze mica.

Typically, we don’t add anything extra (other than color and fragrance) to our melt and pour soaps because it can change the consistency and lather of the soap base. The bronze mica and the OMH will be great for your soap and still make a really nice Honeycomb Melt and Pour bar. Then, next time you want to make it you can purchase and use the Honey Melt and Pour base. =)

Hello-
I just made my first-ever batch of soap using the Honeycomb Soap Kit from Brambleberry.Directions say to line bottom of soap mold with bubble wrap to get the honeycomb pattern/effect. I did, but the bubble wrap floated to the surface instead of staying on the bottom when I poured in the melted soap base. Any suggestions?

That actually happened to me the first time I tried this project as well! I found that soaping at lower temperatures helped to keep the bubble wrap snug in the bottom. I also made sure I liberally sprayed beneath and on top of the bubble wrap so that it would adhere well enough to the soap. I hope this helps! 🙂

You would spray the bubble wrap with 91% rubbing alcohol (which you can typically purchase at your local drug store). By spraying it, it will help it adhere to the soap much easier leaving you with that fun design! 🙂

Thanks for posting this. It really looks amazing. I’m new to soap making and I have a few questions. Where can I buy soap making products (Soap base, fragrances, etc.) in Canadian stores? I know about brambleberry.com but it takes time for that to arrive to me and first i want to see the product before I buy it. I just feel more comfortable buying it from the store. If anything, I will certainly buy it online 😀

No, I am not allergic but due to general health concerns I would like to avoid working with it in the powder form. It is inorganic compound and it is suspected to be a cancer hazard in California. It is mainly used as a sunscreen agent, and inhalation is something to be concerned. More on it:

Great news – I checked into the studies and it appears that the concern lies with Titanium Dioxide in aerosolized products – typically at a nano particle size. It’s approved for use in food, medical devices (including those implanted in the body), vitamins, milk, cheese, bakery items, soups and yes, cosmetics.
The good news is that any titanium dioxide you buy from Brambleberry.com, that is already in the melt and pour bases (the white, the shea and the goatsmilk) is definitely not aerosolized and didn’t start nano-particle sized. The powder we sell is also large sized (so large that we suggest pre-mixing before using in soap). Interestingly enough, it is the most natural white colorant you can get in soap (Kaolin clay, white mica, and Bentonite Clay would be the next best bets).

I really love how this soap looks. I just have a question in regards to the colorants used in this soap.
Do you carry colorants that have the least harmful ingredients and still would provide the same looks ?
I would like to avoid anything that contains Titanium Dioxide.

Are you allergic to titanium dioxide? Is there a reason you’re avoiding that color specifically?

I just had a quick question about the color. I want to make a milk/honey, oatmeal type cold process soap and I loved the idea of the string heart on another soap you did. I was wondering what gold mica to use is I wanted a nice deep gold shiney color like this soap but slightly deeper. Would I just use more or a different color since there are three availble on brambleberry and also if the cappuccino bleeds? I want the colors to stay on top of what will be an otherwise white to off white soap. Thanks in advance!!

This is such a fun soap to make and I’ve seen it done both with melt and pour soap as well as cold process. If you wanted a slightly deeper gold than what is in this soap, you could use a pinch more Honeyed Beige Mica or even throw in a small bit of the Bronze Mica.

We used to do our Honey Oat Soap like this until the production became too “fussy” for us. I really love the look of this soap, especially where it flowed under the bubble wrap…like you’re peering into the comb. Makes it all the more interesting to me.

I’ve been using this technique for a while and I really like it. I’ve found that if you take just a little soap to anchor the bubble wrap in the mold, it’s a lot easier to get off and their’s a lot less soap that gets trapped under the wrap.
1 – small amount of soap to cover bottom of mold
2 – put bubble wrap on top
3 – let dry enough that you know that wrap aint movin’. 🙂
4 – continue with your project. 🙂
