These fun ombre bags are the perfect thing to hold the mini flower bath fizzies and strawberry tart soaps from the Baby Sprinkle favor series. Ombre is all the rage right now, it’s like the sophisticated sister of traditional tie-dye. The idea is to distribute color in such a way that it “fades” from dark to light, and eventually to nothing. Making these bags takes just a few steps, and they’re a nice touch that can make even a small gift seem extra special. Don’t forget to download this free PDF to get a custom tag to complete the look!
What you’ll need:
30 muslin bags
1.35 oz. of Bright Cherry Lab Color diluted in 40 oz. of water
12 oz. of vinegar

ONE: To help the bags absorb the color, first douse them in vinegar. Be sure they are all fully saturated before dipping them in color.
TWO: In a second bowl, mix the water and Lab Color. Then, one by one, pin the bags around the edge of the bowl, with just the bottoms of the bags submerged in the dye bath. Let the bags sit overnight to absorb the color.
THREE:Â After your bags have soaked up the coloring, remove them from the dye bath and squeeze out the excess liquid. If the color is too intense for your liking, run the bags under warm water to remove a bit of the dye. Hang them out to dry. TIP:Â Â They might wrinkle as they dry; don’t be afraid to iron them out if needed!

How does perform when using for bath salts? Do the lab colors bleed? Come out in the tub?

Just to clarify, are you wondering how bath salts work with LabColors? We’ve actually used them before in bath salts and just loved how they turned out! If you do use LabColors, you will want to make sure and bake your salts as the colorant can bleed. Here is a great tutorial on how to incorporate the LabColors into your salts as well as baking them. =)

Thanks for the link Becky. I wasn’t sure about baking salts in the oven, but am more excited to try it now. I wanted to know if the dyed muslin bags could be used with bath salts/soaks? Can the dyed bags be thrown in the tub with product in them? I wasn’t sure if the color would bleed into the tub from the bags?
Quick question…does the vinegar smell fade once they are dry?

The vinegar smell does fade away once the bags are dry and the scent of whatever bath bomb you store in the bag will make them smell amazing! We hope you get a chance to try this project out. =)

You can totally do it! It is actually not as hard as it looks. =) Earlier in the spring, I tried this technique out for some minty green bags using Countryside Mint Leaf LabColor (https://www.brambleberry.com/Countryside-Mint-Leaf-LabColor-P4296.aspx) and they turned out fabulous. I hope you get a chance to try this tutorial out sometime! =)
