Making a matching lip balm for Mom with Passionfruit Rose is easy. Ingredients like Mango Butter and Shea Butter are nourishing to the skin and help provide a barrier against environmental irritations.

This recipe uses:

1 oz. Mango Butter
1 oz. Shea Butter
.7 oz. Beeswax
.5 oz. Castor Oil
.5 oz. Sweet Almond Oil
Passionfruit Rose Flavor

Merlot Mica
Rose Pearl

Measure out, by weight, the individual items. Melt the beeswax with the liquid oils in a double boiler. The beeswax takes significant time and energy to melt. Melting the beeswax in the microwave may take up to 10 minutes and is not recommended due to the extreme heat needed to melt the wax.
Add the Shea Butter and Mango Butter to the melted wax and oils. Allow the heat of the wax and oil to melt the butters. Stir well.

By weight, use 1 – 3% flavor. Start with the small amount (1%) and flavor to taste. Freeze some knives ahead of time and dip the frozen knife into your lip balm. The lip balm will harden instantly, allowing you to taste and try the product prior to pouring into containers.

Add color to preference. The list of Bramble Berry lip safe colorants is here.

Once the color and flavor is fully mixed in, pour mixture into lip balm containers, label and you’re all done.

  1. I tried this but excluded the taste (I avoid artificial flavors where possible) and the taste of the castor oil is awful (I should have known it would happen!). Is there a way to minimize the taste without losing the gloss or using artificial flavors? I’ve tried stevia, honey and even cocoa powder (which made my recipe thick and dry) before with little success.

Love the way castor oil feels, hate the way it tastes 🙁

    Thanks!

    Sara

    1. Castor does taste awful – maybe try Wheatgerm oil in place of the Castor? It won’t be quite as thick but it has the wonderful glossy sheen (similar to Castor Oil)and so your recipe will still have a nice gloss.

  2. You're looking for .111 ounces or so. That would be approximately 15 mls but that's a really really really really big approximation. A scale is always better.

And yes, if you're using softer butters, you would use maybe 5% more wax with those butters?

  3. I love this recipe and would love to try it, although I do not have a scale ( but I am purchasing one ) My question tho is, how do you measure the 1% ( 0.03oz ) into drops? I am not the best with math and am having trouble with a conversion. Any advice?

  4. When making lip balms, what about using other butters such as lavender butter, acai butter, cranberry buter. They are softer so would we use a little more wax with these type of butters

  5. Thank you for the recipe and I look forward to trying it. Would you reccommend Cacao butter in place of the cocoa butter?

  6. Yum! What a great mixture – the raspberry and spearmint sounds very refreshing.

I’m so glad that you had a successful lip balm experiment. =)

Thanks for posting to let me know. It really makes my day when people try the recipes I post here.

  7. I put in my order for the passion fruit rose, so that balm will be next week. Can’t wait to try it! We did try this recipie with .7 oz. cocoa butter-deoderized- as you suggested and it made a lucious spreadable balm! I used raspberry& cream @ 1%(o.o3oz), then I added about 30 drops of spearmint e/o. I know it’s not the exact recipie as you listed but thanks for the great stating point.~Andrea~

  8. Since cocoa butter is harder than Mango Butter, I’d do .7 ounces of cocoa butter for the full 1 ounce of Mango Butter to make sure that your balm is nice, soft and spreadable. =)

Let me know what you think when you make your balm =)

  9. ~you must be reading my mind!, a lip balm with shea & passion fruit rose was just the next project I was planning.
Thanks for the recipe… Can I substitute cocoa butter for the mango???
    ~Andrea~
