Debbie, from SoapyLove, was our inspiration for creating a plaid soap of our own. You may have seen Debbie’s cute plaid soaps here(and below). In her honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve created a fun March soap project using Soapy Love as our inspiration. We will be posting the green tutorial tomorrow so stay tuned! However, it’s a “need to see it to believe it” technique so we hope you can join Debbie at the 2nd Annual Soap Weekend Intensive in Bellingham, Washington July 17-19. Click here for more details on SWI 2009. Debbie will be teaching this concept in person so consider this a little teaser. For those of you that don’t know, Debbie is the instigator of the Soapsicle trend currently sweeping the ‘net and has a book coming out this fall on melt and pour techniques and tricks.

  1. Debbie’s soaps are always perfection – which is why I didn’t need convincing to subscribe to her newsletter!

  2. I can't wait to see your tutorial! I've always wondered how Debbie made those amazing soaps. I can experiment with cp pretty well, but m&p is a different story. I'm a huge fan of plaid so I might have to carve out some time to give this a try =)

  3. katwoman – I think we’re about the same age, then! Maybe we’ll both be rockin’ plain bermudas this summer! LOL!

  4. Bridgette, If the soaps are kept in an airtight container, they should last at least 3 years. If you leave them out, they tend to dry up and become less easy to craft with. I have used melt and pour soap that was over 9 years old without any trouble. =)

    don’t tell anyone…..i went to india in 1986 and i wasn’t 10 either, then in 2007

but yes, i do remembe the bermudas!

    lol!

  6. Hi Katwoman!
Thanks for your comment! I am lucky enough to say I’ve been to Chennai and I totally respect the new names.

However, being a child of the 80’s, I was inspired by the old Madras Bermudas. Do you remember those? I actually saw some great new ones in Target that I’m definitely going to buy! 🙂

  7. just followed the link and saw they are called Madras plaid.

they look exactly like Madras fabric!

but for the babies in this audience, debbie, will you rename them chennai?

(just kiddin!) india just renamed some of their major cities and it is hard to get used to it!

  8. Those are absolutely adorable!

The colors are soft and feminine
and the plaid makes it more unisex.
I can’t wait for the tutorial!

Anne-Marie, thank you for the input on the salt bars and the shrink wraps. You are a doll and I am grateful!

  9. Adorable! I’ll have to try that, I have guests for Spring Break, don’t you think they’d like a little project like this?

  10. Woo Hoo! I can’t wait for the tutorial! We’re MAJOR fans of all of Debbie’s designs, can’t wait to get the inside scoop on how it’s done!

  11. I was just saying how Soapylove's Alien soap was one of my all time favorite designs, needless to say the plaid is right up there. Debbie, you are and always will be the Soapsicle Queen but you have many other creative M&P soap inventions (the Alien and Plaid soaps just to mention two more). Your students are so lucky!

    Your fan!
    Paula

  12. Thank you Anne-Marie for this very nice post! The plaid soap technique is so cool and has many possible interpretations.

I can’t wait to head up to Bellingham again and have some serious soapy fun!!

  13. Very exciting. I am always wanting to learn more and be inspired. A question I have – what is the average shelf life for the m&p bases??

    Thank you

  14. I am so excited about this tutorial! I’ve been admiring these on Debbie’s flicker account for a long time. 🙂 Her ezine was wonderful, can’t wait for the book. You two are such inspiration!

    ~Erin

  15. I have been excited about this tutorial ever since I read about it in the newsletter. And it's just in time; I have 20 pounds of M&P from Bramble Berry coming on Monday!
