Reed Diffuser Basics

Mix 1 part fragrance and 1 part DPG. Next add rubbing Alcohol to thin it down to a watery consistency (usually less than 25% of the total blend). The amount you use will vary depending on the consistency of the fragrance or essential oil.

Personalize your reed bottles with Mod Podge (a decoupage glue) for a one of a kind reed diffuser and a one of a kind gift! As you can see, I had a blast.
This is my favorite. I cut up the program from Wicked in London for a souvenir that will forever remind me of a once in a life time trip!
This black and white is bottle is super simple. I used white tissue paper with Rub-Ons, which are stickers used for scrapbooking. I love how the texture turned out. It reminds me of paper-mache!
Last but not least is a collage from my old magazine collection (I knew I saved them for a reason). I just picked out fun colors and things that I love…notice the iphone, Twitter bird and the work out girl.
Please note: The cute curly Ting Ting sticks don’t wick-up the fragrance blends like the reeds do – but they are so cute I used them as is. If you are trying to fragrance a large room try mixing in some reed diffusers with the curly Ting Tings.
For an 8 oz bottle how do you figure measurements? Also should I assume if you add less than 25% alcohol the rest is water? About what is one part? I understand it means an equal ratio but what is a good starting point a ml, tsp or tbsp?

The easiest way to figure out measurements is to figure out how much you want to put in your bottle and then put one part fragrance per one part DPG. So you could do 2 ounces of fragrance per 2 ounces of DPG, or even 6 ounces of fragrance per 6 ounces of DPG. Basically, it’s a 1:1 ratio of whatever size you choose. 🙂
Once you’ve done that then you would add 25% or less of rubbing alcohol to your mixture. The best way to convert percentages to ounces is with this handy-dandy little guide that Anne-Marie wrote, I use it often when converting my recipes:

How will I know when I’ve used enough rubbing alcohol? These are so cute!
Hi Toni! You’ll know that you used enough rubbing alcohol when it has thinned down to a watery consistency. If it still seems thick, I’d add some more alcohol until you get a water-like consistency!

What a great post! I know reed diffusers are "yesterday", but I LOVE them still.
I actually made a reed diffuser out of an old lightbulb, I love them so much! (Yes, I absolutely used Bramble Berry FO for the scent.)

I have since switched out the round reed for curly willow, and will switch again to "wooden roses" come spring.

actually last year i went on this modge podge fantasy tour. seeking 1 gallon sizes of the stuff! with all kinds of plans.
i actually went to Tuesday Morning and bought well (i won't embarass myself by actually saying how much i spent) (but it was alot!) of beautiful designer napkins. So pretty! i was going to make boxes and then i started packratting cigar boxes from humidors all over town.
