I probably am jinxing the batch by showing you these photos before I pull the soap out of the molds (Dear Soda Ash Gremlins, please stay away) but I am so excited about this batch that I just had to share. I’m so excited for two reasons:
1. We are in the final test mode for adding back both our original divider molds and an upgraded divider mold (complete with lock bars and a new and improved soap bar size). This news alone is cause for celebration and sharing. I’ve missed the molds and I know you have too.
2. Plus, the batch is rockin’ sweet cool. It’s a four color swirl with Purple Oxide, Yellow Oxide, Black Oxide and Super Pearly White Mica. It’s fragranced with Energy and Yuzu (4 parts Energy, 1 part Yuzu). Here’s how the batch progressed and happened:
The fourth color (white) is hidden off to the side in a 3 pound size. My mold is fully lined and ready to go.
First layer; not looking like much, is it?
Third layer; it’s starting to look better, isn’t it?
The above photo with just a little spatula work. Makes a big difference, doesn’t it?
Eek! Adding the dividers for perfectly sized, perfectly square corners each and every time is a little nerve wracking. To push the dividers into the soapy masterpiece is a leap of faith but the end result is totally worth it.
We’re in final testing phases for the mold and I feel confident that we’ll have a great divider solution (a set of them!) for you soon.

Super simple – I just start in one corner and go in a straight line from one long end to the other, turn the spatula and come back down the one long end to the other, and back again (in about 1" spacing increments) and then do that the 'short' way. I go all the way to the bottom to help draw the swirls all the way down.
Laurie Walker says
Can you please what you do with the spatula a little more. Do you swirl it over the top or do you go all the way to the bottom. You have a very artistic design that looks like you almost painted the top. thank you!
Anne-Marie says
Rachael,
You're making me laugh =)
If you pour the soap short, yes, definitely a 2 ounce bar.
Meaning, if you fill the dividers all the way to the tippy top, they are about a 5.5 ounce bar.
If you only fill 1/3 of the way up, you'll have a 2 ounce bar that measures: 2 7/8" long x 1 15/16" wide and probably 3/4" tall.
Please let me know if you have any other questions =))

Very pretty swirls. Can't wait to see the tutorial!

Hi Cliff Island,
Just email it to me =) [email protected]
Swirling – I usually do my two/three/four layers of color and then literally just go up and down lengthwise through the mold (top to bottom, bottom to top) and then start going horizontally through the mold (side to side and side to side).
Just once up and down and once side to side and that's it. Too much swirling makes blurry lines.
Cliff Island Soapworks says
Hi again, Sorry, but I guess I don't know how, or where, to upload a photo of my soap for you to see??? HELP! Joanne
Cliff Island Soapworks says
Hi Anne Marie, I will take a photo, later today, and send it to you. Also have a question? When you are ready to swirl your color/colors, how much swirling do you do to get that nice overall look? Do you just go in one direction, i.e. pull the color lengthwise in the mold, and then take the spatula out and begin again for each row of swirling, or do you go in one direction 1st, then the other? Thanks, Joanne
Anne-Marie says
Joanne, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see photos of that batch. It sounds incredible – positively decadent and amazing. If you upload them to Flickr or a blog, let me know =))

I love these MOLDS! I'm definitely getting 2 of the 10lb. molds. I make 20lb. batches and they will be perfect! Just did my 1st successful "Swirling", a few days ago, with my Chocolate Raspberry Scrub Soap. I used the Raspberry Pop Oxide (came out a light-med. raspberry color) for the main color. Took out about 6-8cups of lightly traced soap & colored it with Brown Oxide (to a chocolate brown color. Poured the light raspberry into my 20lb. mold and then took the Chocolate Color (held high above the mold) and poured in a grid pattern in both directions. Took my half size spatula and went to swirling! I may have "over swirled" a bit, but on the whole I am very proud of the results! The only problem is, is that it smells so much like chocolate & looks so much like fudge, that everyone wants to eat it!!!! LOL

Thank you Anne Marie, the swirls and the color choices are lovely. Can't wait to see them out of the mold, I was going to say cut, but hey no cutting!
Karen S says
This inspires me to do more swirling!
Anne-Marie says
The soap bars in the above mold (we'll have two different distinct molds) will make up to a 5 ounce bar if you pour all the way to the top. =)

How many ounces are each bar? I love the idea of these molds but I'm always hesitant because of the bar size. Can you share what the typical ounces per bar will be?
Anne-Marie says
DreadLocGrl169, I am sorry I missed your earlier question.
http://www.brambleberry.com will have those molds in the next 2 to 3 weeks in both a 6 pound size and a 10 pound size.
Anne-Marie says
Hi Anon,
I poured 1 layer of white and then drizzled the colors over the white. Then, I poured a 2nd layer of white and drizzled the rest of the colors. And then, I did it again.
I took the spatula and ran lines up the mold in a grid like pattern and then did the same thing horizontally in the mold.
And then, put the dividers in. We are going to do a premium SoapQueen.TV tutorial on how to do swirling with a special guest 'master' swirler to teach you how to swirl amazingly.
Jeanine, Kallen, Peace, Love – The molds should be here by the end of the month. I am so excited about them, I can hardly stand it!
Brigette says
The 4 part swirl is just beautiful. I have never done more than a 2 color swirl. Think I may need to give more colors a try.

Hi,
I have never done swirling like this… How did you pour this? And did you just go up and down with your spatchula till it looked right or is there more of a technique?
Beth says
When I grow up, I want to swirl like that.

Amanda, It's the glass mixing bowl that Kitchen Aid is coming out with as an optional attachment for all their Kitchen Aid mixers. Isn't incredible?
Thanks everyone for your positive comments.
Soap is in the freezer right now – I'll try releasing it tomorrow…
