I’m sure you’ve already heard the news that I’m having a baby boy. Eeeek! If you hadn”t heard that, read the blog post on how I told my parents the sex of the baby. And my amazing brother, Erik from ELF Soap Molds, designed these awesome Baby Onesie Molds. In love! I had so much fun making these soaps in the soap lab. I’m hoping you enjoy the project just as much.

Note: The hardest part of this project is deciding what you want your little onesies to look like. As you can see, I had fun making various designs.
ONE: First fill in the seams with pink or blue colored soap (maybe even glitter) using a dropper. It should take about two to three minutes to cool.
TWO: Melt a couple of ounces of clear soap base and let it cool down to 125-130 degrees F. Then spritz the seams with rubbing alcohol and pour a thin layer of clear soap. And here’s a new technique that I tried and loved: Cut out your design on water soluble paper, spritz it with rubbing alcohol and drop it in the clear soap. The method on the Soap Queen Video works great too. I just love experimenting with new techniques!
THREE: The other thing to keep in mind is your background color and how the design will look. I put a little glob of white soap base on the Soap Queen TV logo so the logo would show up white with my hot pink pink background.
FOUR: Then pick your background color and glitter. Shown in the picture above is Liquid Pink and Glitter in in Clear soap scented with Mangosteen Fragrance Oil. Mangosteen is a luscious blend of mangosteen, guava and green melon. Sweet and citrusy!
BONUS ONESIE: Just fill in the seams and add little drops of white or colored soap in the middle of the mold. Once it cools, spritz with rubbing alcohol and pour your final layer. For the seams, I used Liquid Pink in White Soap and for the background color I used Liquid Pink in Clear Soap, with Glitter and Mangosteen Fragrance.

  1. Where can I buy these!?!?!?! I’m new to the whole soap making thing, starting with the bath bombs, which seems a whole lot easier than this project! I’m hositng a Pamper Mommy baby showerfor my friend and we’ll use the Bath Bomb kit and the Goat’s Mik Bath tea kit at the party, I’d love to be able to include these onesie soaps as a favor but don’t want to screw it up!

    • Since you have 2 molds (the more the better). You’ll have to do them in 3 separate rounds to get 24. It will probably only take you about 30 minutes to make 8 soaps, the longest part will be the cooling process. You could totally bust them out in one day if you did a round in the morning, another round at lunch then finish them off in the evening.

      It’s worth it though. I made them for a baby shower and they were such a hit!

  9. I am using the drop the paper in technique you show here and I am still getting bleeding. I am letting the paper dry for several days and also spraying with hair spray. Any ideas? Oh, and these are super cute by the way!!

  11. Lol, that’s what I thought also… I was like…hmmmmm. What’s going on there? Then realized it was a back shot.

  18. Like double backwards? Or just single backwards? That’s intentional so that the logo looks right on from the front, since you’re putting it in/down on the backside. 🙂 I’ll go check them to make sure we made them the right way though. Now you have me worried. :))

  29. Spray alcohol INTO the seams first. It helps the soap spread more evenly. I should probably add that to the blog post … (airhead me today!)

  32. Looove these cute onesies soaps! I really need to work on my “seam” technique. I bought PJ’s syringe tool from you, but it’s still daunting to try them…this is what’s been keeping me from trying the gingerbread man soap. :}
