Bed time can be a bit of an *ahem*… challenge if you have kids. This is especially the case if you have a kiddo who’s afraid of monsters. While telling your little one there are no monsters can help, you can also help them spray the monsters away!
Spritzing the Monster-Be-Gone Spray each night before bedtime can help children conquer their fear of the dark and scary things that go bump in the night. This monster spray is especially fun because it is has a soft purple hue from Royal Purple LabColor and a shimmer from Light Gold Mica. The rose water gives the monster-be-gone spray a subtle and comforting rose scent. Your kids may even look forward to bed time each night!
Because this spray is intended to be sprayed on or near your child, we don’t recommend a fragrance or essential oil. If you do add one, make sure to use Polysorbate 20 at a 1:1 ratio with your fragrance. We recommend scenting on the lower end… like, the very low end. You can use the Fragrance Calculator to find out how much scent to add and go low, low, low. Select the “Lotion” option from the drop-down menu. Also, be sure to not use too much LabColor, as too much colorant could stain sheets, clothing or carpet. Just a few drops does the trick.
You don’t need to add a preservative to this recipe because the rose water already contains a preservative. Read more about preservatives here.
What You’ll Need:

ONE: Carefully pour 8 oz. of rose water into a plastic bottle. If you’re worried about spilling, you can use a funnel.
TWO: Add about 5-7 drops of diluted Royal Purple LabColor. Be sure to dilute your LabColor before use! Learn how to dilute LabColors here.
Note: If you want your spray a little darker, you can add a couple more drops of color. Don’t add much more than 10-11 drops total, otherwise the color could stain items in your house.
THREE: Add 1/8 tsp. of Gold (light) Mica.
FOUR: Screw cap on tightly and shake the bottle to mix all the ingredients together and it’s ready to use! The ingredients may settle, so make sure to shake well before each use.

can you use this in candles?
Kelsey with Bramble Berry says
No, this product is water based so it won’t mix into the wax. You can color your candles with these wax colorants: https://www.brambleberry.com/Colorants-C18.aspx
And scent them with these candle fragrances: https://www.brambleberry.com/Skin-Safe-Candle-Fragrances-C341.aspx

Can you make this with witch hazel instead of rose water?
Kelsey says
I think that will work just fine! We didn’t test this recipe with witch hazel, so you may want to make a small test batch to ensure everything works well. 🙂

Hi there!! I absolutely love this! I made this for my son when he was very little and now i have a little girl and looking for a better way to make it. This was a wonderful and actually beautiful looking spray! I want to make some for myself now for a light air fresher.lol this is going to be perfect for my little girl. Thank you!!. I make my own rose water toner from your recipe and i swear by it! Every year i have rough terrible dry patches along my cheeks and forehead and i started using it the very first patch that popped up and the next day it was softened and by the next day completely gone! And my face has been smooth and glowing ever since. I was wondering though, is this a distilled rose water? Or a rose infused water. Theres two methods ive seen this made and was wondering which way yours is made. And what the difference between the two besides the way they are made? One ive seen is the water that comes from making essential oil, and the other method is rose petals simply boiled in water. Are their benefits the same?
Kelsey says
Hi Kat!
So glad you’re loving the rose water toner! The first method (distilling the water) is a true hydrosol, which our rose water isn’t. Ours is made through a very similar method. However, our rose water is intentionally infused, rather than a byproduct of the essential oil making process. 🙂

Hi Kelsey. I am really sorry for interrupting this reply comment forum as i want to ask about Scuplting Mustache Wax recipe tutorial because I don’t find any “Leave a comment” button. Perhaps it doesn’t appears to my phone screen. Back to the topic, I really want to ask, can I only use 1 type of oil instead of 3 types of oils in Mustache Wax recipe? such as I only use Olive oil solely in that recipe. I am really looking forward to make try out this recipe for my husband’s birthday. I hope you don’t mind I leave a comment here. Thanks.
Kelsey says
You can use olive oil if you like, but it will change the feel of the wax. The castor and vitamin E oil are sticky, which helps the mustache hold its shape. You may want to make a small test batch to see what you think. 🙂

Can you use a Hydrosol instead of Rose Water?
Kelsey says
Hi Angela!
I believe hydrosols and rose water are similar, so that should be OK! If the hydrosol has water and no preservative, you may want to add one to be extra careful. Optiphen ND at 1% works well for water-based products. 🙂

Why not use lavender oil to help the kids sleep while you’re at it?
Kelsey says
Hi Jo!
That’s a great idea! You can definitely add lavender essential oil if you like. If so, we recommend an emulsifier to help the rose water and essential oil combine. You can use Polysorbate 20 at a 1:1 ratio with the essential oil: https://www.brambleberry.com/Polysorbate-20-P3212.aspx

Hi. I’m making a spray with aloe Vera juice, rose water and witch hazel. Would I need a preservative?
-Cadence
Kelsey says
Hi Cadence!
Rose water already has a preservative in it, so that will help protect the spray against mold and bacteria. However, you may want to add a preservative just to be safe. I would recommend adding that at .5% so you don’t over preserve the product. 🙂

This would make a great linen spray as rose water alone! However, I prefer not to lie to my kids, so I wouldn’t be using it as a monster spray.
Kelsey says
Rose water would make a nice linen spray! It has a soft, subtle scent that’s really lovely. 🙂

This doesn’t need a preservative???
Kelsey says
Hi Shawn!
The rose water already contains a preservative, so this recipe doesn’t need one. Nice and easy. 🙂

FYI If you make this be certain and tell the Children it lasts 24hrs! LOL I’ve made this for years *not your recipe, but I love it* I told my niece that it worked all night long, and she said “well I need it to work ALL day, and ALL night because Monsters can come during the day too”. She was 6. My children used my spray as part of their bedtime routine. It really does work!! We didn’t deal with Monsters while they were growing up 🙂
I can’t wait to try your recipe, I just had to share.
You have been an inspiration Anne-Marie!!
Kelsey says
Hi Nancy!
That’s great advice! Definitely want those monsters gone for a full 24 hours. Have fun trying this recipe. 🙂

I love the look of this spray, would you be able to achieve this look in a scented body spray? Perhaps using Cyclomethicone?
Kelsey says
Hi Lindsay!
We didn’t try this recipe with cyclomethicone, so I’m not entirely sure! I believe that would work just fine though. A small test batch may be helpful. 🙂
