It’s important to keep skin protected from the elements all the time but especially when ski sports are involved (water or snow). In particular, lips can be extra sensitive and require additional TLC. Whether it’s harsh sun or cold winds, this Shimmery Ski Lip Balm hydrates and protects lips. The combination of coconut oil, avocado oil, beeswax and cera bellina wax creates a firm yet spreadable texture. Avocado oil contains natural B vitamins, while white beeswax creates a protecting barrier. If you don’t have white beeswax on hand, yellow beeswax would work as well.
A hint of Peach Shimmer Mica adds a highlighting effect to the balm. If you’d like the balm to leave color on your lips, feel free to add more mica until you get the color you like. The “Spoon Trick” is a great way to test the color and consistency of your balms before pouring. Click here to learn how. While specifically formulated with lips in mind, this product is suitable to use on the body as well!

What You’ll Need:
5 Push Tubes, Clear
3 oz. Avocado Oil
1 oz. Coconut Oil
1 oz. White Beeswax
.7 oz. Cera Bellina Wax
5 mL Vitamin E Oil
6 mL Winter Clementine Flavor Oil
1.5 tsp. Peach Shimmer Mica

ONE: In a small heatsafe container, add the coconut oil and avocado oil. If your coconut oil is solid, melt before adding to the container. Then, add the vitamin E oil and stir to combine.
TWO: Add the white beeswax and cera bellina wax into the container, and heat the container in the microwave using 30 second bursts until the waxes have completely melted. Be careful when removing the container from the microwave, as it may be very hot. Also be sure to use an appropriately sized container for the batch (lots of head space = possibility for overheating and cracking glass heat safe containers).
THREE: Add the Winter Clementine Flavor Oil and stir to combine. Remember: if you’re making a body balm but there’s any chance this will go on lips, you need to use a lip safe flavoring or lip safe essential oil.
FOUR: Add the Peach Shimmer Mica, and stir thoroughly to combine and get rid of any clumps. If you prefer more color and shimmer, feel free to add more until you are happy with the effect. To test the color, try the Spoon Trick! Remember, not all micas are lip safe. Be sure to use a lip safe colorant if using this balm for lips.
FIVE: Once the mica is thoroughly mixed in, check the temperature of the mixture. You don’t want to pour the mixture while it’s too hot, or the mica may sink to the bottom. Once the mixture has cooled to about 130-140 ° F, carefully pour the mixture into the push tubes and allow to fully cool and harden. I found this filled 4 tubes up to the tip top, but this recipe would also comfortably make 5 tubes. Enjoy!
