Learn how to make rose gold eye shadow, nail polish and lip balm in this easy tutorial!Rose Gold Mica is a lovely two-tone mica. It appears as a pale rose pink or a glimmering gold, depending on how the light hits it. In the Lip Shimmer, it adds a subtle rosy color to the lips, while in the Nail Polish, the gold really stands out. The Eye Shadow has a lovely pale golden pink finish. You can wear one product at a time, or all of them at once for a cohesive glam look. These recipes create four of each product.

Nail Polish

ONE: Using a mini scoop, add about 20 scoops of Rose Gold Mica to each nail polish bottle. Then, add 1 nail polish mixing ball to each bottle.  Please note that nail polish is extremely flammable and should never be customized near any open flame or extremely hot heat source (say, a stove or something like that).

Nail polish is incredibly easy and fun to make!TWO: Pour the nail polish base slowly into the nail polish bottles. Fill until just below the shoulder of the bottle to allow for mixing room. If you spill, use an old rag to wipe the neck of the bottle. If you forget to do this, your lid may “glue” itself to the bottle.

THREE: Insert the brushes into the bottles and twist the black cap over it until you hear a “click.” Once the cap is securely on the bottle, start shaking! Shake the bottle for 3-5 minutes to fully disperse the colorant into the nail polish base. When the colorant has been fully dispersed, you’re finished. Enjoy!

Eye Shadow

EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, mini scoops, measuring spoons and mixing spoons. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible. To be safe, bleach water all your utensils.

ONE: In a small container, add 2 tsp. Rose Gold Mica and 1/4 tsp. sericite. Mix well. The sericite helps give the eye shadow a smooth texture.

Sericite gives homemade eye shadow a smooth and silky texture. TWO: Add 1/2 tsp. 99% isopropyl alcohol to the container. Mix until the eye shadow is smooth and there are no clumps.
Alcohol is added to the eye shadow mixture to create a smooth texture.THREE: Scoop the eye shadow into the Heart Lip Butter Pots. Tap the containers on the counter to help settle the powder.
Pour the eye shadow mixture into containers and tap down until smooth. FOUR: Let the pots sit overnight uncapped. This will allow the isopropyl alcohol to evaporate. Enjoy!
Note: The isopropyl alcohol helps make the eye shadow compact. However, as it is manipulated with a brush or moved around, it will loosen. It will also loosen if kept in a purse. We recommend keeping the shadow in a safe place to prevent it from breaking.
Once the alcohol evaporates, it creates a semi-solid eye shadow texture.

Lip Shimmer

ONE: Portion out 1 oz. of the Nourish Lip Balm Base in a heat-safe container. Melt in 20 second bursts, stirring between each burst. Then, add 2 tsp. Rose Gold Mica to the melted base and stir to fully incorporate.
Rose Gold Mica gives this lip balm a beautiful shimmer.TWO: Add the Buttercreme Flavor Oil and Lip Smacking Sweet Flavor Oil to the balm and mix well.

THREE: Carefully pour the melted lip balm into tubes. Let the balm fully cool and harden. Enjoy!

I was wondering if 91% alcohol would be okay to use in the eye shadow as well as to spritz my bubbles away when making melt and pour soap? I can’t find the 99% one. Also, I’d love to see how the makeup looks on a person instead of just the paper. Thanks for all the ideas!! Congrats on your new book too! Thanks!

  2. Do you have a recipe for a body shimmer powder? Not sure if you would use Mica + Tapioca starch or Mica + kaolin clay?

Also a liquid highlighter? Mica + Fractionated Coconut Oil + ?

    Any suggestions?

Lastly what would be a good sub for cyclmethicone?

    1. We don’t have a recipe for body shimmer, but you can use a similar formula to the eye shadow above. Sericite would be a good base for it. As for the kaolin clay, you can use it but keep in mind it does draw moisture from the skin, so it may dry it out.

Super Pearly White leaves a really nice shimmer on the skin: https://www.brambleberry.com/Super-Pearly-White-Mica-P3463.aspx

      As does Snowflake Sparkle: https://www.brambleberry.com/Snowflake-Sparkle-Mica-P6225.aspx

As for the liquid highlighter, mica and fractionated coconut oil would be a good place to start. We also have this cream highlighter recipe you may like: https://soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/moisturizing-highlighter-sticks/

What recipe are you using the cyclomethicone in?

    1. We don’t, but we can definitely look into that for future blog tutorials! Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂

  3. Hmmmmm…it’s been a while. I think it’s high time for a sultry, smokin’ hot summer lip tutorial!! Pretty pleeeeeassssee? 😀

    1. That’s an awesome suggestion Nicole! We’ll definitely keep that in mind for future blog posts. I love a bright summer lip color. 🙂

  4. I posted my question with the wrong tutorial. Sorry in advance for the repeat. I plan to leave out the flavoring oils. Can I, or should I, substitute a plain carrier oil in the same quantity? Thanks.

    1. Hi Laura!

You don’t need to adjust the oils in the recipe! Flavoring oils are considered an additive, so they don’t affect the recipe amounts. Because you’re adding such a small amount of the flavor oil the texture should be just fine. If you like a softer recipe, you can add a touch more liquid oil. 🙂

      -Kelsey with Bramble Berry

      1. Thanks! My 11-year-old and I made the lip balm last weekend without any of the flavoring oils. It still smelled very nice. We want to do the eye shadow next, but as a cream shadow. Do you have a recipe? The highlighter recipe on the web site seems like it wouldn’t be creamy/soft enough because of the wax.

        1. Hi Laura!

Yay, I’m so glad you guys had fun making that recipe :). Unfortunately we don’t have a recipe for cream eyeshadow. We have found it’s tricky to find a formula that doesn’t feel sticky on the eyelids. I’m sorry about that! I will definitely let our testing team know that we should keep trying! 🙂

this is the best recipe!! it looks great, can’t wait to make more with different flavors and micas!

  6. Could the lip shimmer be placed in the Heart Lip Butter Pots instead of the lip balm tubes? I just like the look of the pots especially as a gift for a young girl. Just found your website! Wow, so many great ideas!

  7. Just made the lip shimmer! Oh my gosh, it’s so lovely! The shimmery color and buttercream FO are perfect to kickstart the holidays. :))

    1. Yay, so glad you like the lip shimmer! It’ll look great at all your holiday get togethers. 🙂
