Jojoba beads are one of my favorite exfoliants. They are round and smooth, making them gentle on the skin. The biodegradable beads (sometimes called jojoba esters) are derived from the wax of the jojoba shrub. Jojoba beads are not to be confused with microbeads, which are made from plastic. Click here to learn more about jojoba beads vs. microbeads. For this Scrubby Body Wash, I used Sierra Sky Jojoba Beads to give gentle exfoliation and a gorgeous blue hue.
Jojoba beads suspend wonderfully in the thick texture of the Stephenson Suspending Body Wash. The amount of jojoba beads used in this recipe give a very gentle exfoliation. Feel free to use more if you prefer an extra scrubby wash. I used the Bramble Berry’s Fierce Type Fragrance Oil to give this wash a masculine scent.
What You’ll Need:
Two 8 oz. Bottles with Pump Top
16 oz. Stephenson Suspending Body Wash
2 Tbs. Sierra Sky Jojoba Beads
0.2 oz. Bramble Berry’s Fierce Type Fragrance Oil

Can you use Brambleberry’s Lab Colors instead of the Jojoba Beads?
Yes, the LabColors are a good option to color liquid soap. The soap will be one solid color, rather than the polka dot look of the soap above.

Do the jojoba beads ever clog the pump top?
They’re pretty small, so we haven’t had any trouble with them clogging the pump. If that happens, you can wash it out with water or a toothpick.

I actually have had this issue with this recipe. The pump clogs very badly, to the point that it’s too annoying to use . My plan was to sell these, back to the drawing board.

Does this recipe need a presetvative? And if not how long is its shelf life.
It doesn’t, soap has a pH level that doesn’t allow mold to grow. The soap will have a shelf life of about a year. It stores best in a cool, dry place.

hi i am from india, can i used castile liquid base instead of your base or any other base for body wash which is easily available here
I believe that will be OK, just make sure that base is skin safe and can take additives like fragrance, color, and exfoliants.

Love the idea of adding an exfoliate! Was wondering if you can recommend a suspending body wash that is SLS free?
We don’t carry an SLS free version of suspending body wash. We can definitely look into it though! You can also suspend exfoliants in our melt and pour bases, most of which are SLS free. Just wait until the soap is around 125-130F before pouring so it’s thick enough to suspend the exfoliant. 🙂

Hello.
Please can I use sea salt/ walnut shell powder instead of jojoba seeds? Can I also use the African black Soap instead of the body wash?
Walnut shells will work in place of the jojoba beads! They are a medium exfoliant as well. You can add the same amount as this recipe. 🙂

I would like to try this recipe! I have a dry skin so I am wondering if I can add moisturizing oil such as fractionated coconut oil to the lotion. Will that work? If so, how much oil can I add to the lotion? Thanks!!
This is not a lotion. It is a body wash. But i am pretty sure you can still add a small amount of oil to this. I do, and it works just fine for me:) However, i only added a very small amount to test it out and i used TR castor oil. and not sure about the shea. Definitely give it a shot making a very small batch to make sure it’ll turn out. Which, im sure it will because if im not mistaken, they make these bases leaving some extra room for us to customize up to i think 5%. At least for lotions i know for sure.lol
I missed this comment. Sorry about the late response Mica. Kat is correct – because this is a soap, the oil won’t mix in. Instead, it will pool on top. You can try adding a very small amount (1 teaspoon per pound), but you may have to shake before each use. 🙂

I am new to making soap and definitely want to try making a body wash. Does Bramble Berry have a liquid soap that I can add an oil to?

I like poppy seeds myself, they are so cheap and they look good with just about anything. Will jojoba beads degrade at all over time in a liquid?
Poppy seeds are a great exfoliant! Also, we the jojoba beads are pretty sturdy. They may start to break down eventually, but we have soap made a year or so ago with jojoba beads that are still going strong. 🙂
