Inspired by the colors and textures of the outdoors, the Gardener Soap Kit is an oldie but goodie. We first created the project back in 2011 – watch the original Soap Queen TV video here. Six years later, it was time for a refresh.
The refreshed Gardener Soap Kit has a similar design and feel, but with updated ingredients and instructions. The kit now comes with printed instructions that are easier to follow. It also comes with new and improved ingredients like the Pure Soap Silicone Tray Mold, which is a durable and long-lasting.
The combination of walnut shells and shredded loofah create a scrubby bar of soap, which is perfect for washing hands that have been working in the garden. They have a fresh green scent that’s great for both men and women. See more information about the kit here.

Pure Soap Silicone Tray Mold
2 lbs. Goat Milk Melt and Pour Soap Base
1 lb. Clear Melt & Pour Soap Base
0.5 oz. Green Fig Fragrance Oil
0.2 oz. Walnut Shells
0.2 oz. Shredded Loofah
Hydrated Chrome Green Color Block
1 Dropper
99% Isopropyl Alcohol in a Spray Bottle
Gardener Melt & Pour Soap Kit
Ingredients
- Pure Soap Silicone Tray Mold
- 21 oz. Goat Milk Melt and Pour Soap Base
- 10.5 oz. Clear Melt & Pour Soap Base
- 12 mL Green Fig Fragrance Oil
- 1 Tbsp. Walnut Shells
- 1 Tbsp. Shredded Loofah
- Hydrated Chrome Green Color Block
- Dropper
- 99 % Isopropyl Alcohol in a Spray Bottle
Instructions
- For the first layer, chop 10.5 oz. of the Goat Milk Melt & Pour Base into small cubes. Place the soap into a heat-safe container and melt in the microwave using 30 second bursts. After each burst, stir the soap. Be careful not to overheat and burn the soap.
- Once melted, add 1 Tbsp. of walnut shells. Stir to combine. Use the dropper to add 4 mL of fragrance oil and stir. Pour the soap into the mold. Spritz with alcohol to get rid of bubbles. Allow to cool and harden for 5-10 minutes while you prepare the next layer.
- For the second layer, chop 10.5 oz. of Goat Milk Melt & Pour Base into small cubes. Place the soap into a heat-safe container and melt in the microwave using 30 second bursts. After each burst, stir the soap. Be careful not to overheat and burn the soap.
- Add shavings of the Green Color Block to the melted soap until you get a light green. Add 4 mL of the fragrance oil. Stir well and let the soap cool to 130° F or cooler so that it doesn’t melt the first layer.
- Once cooled, spritz the first layer with alcohol to help the second layer adhere. Pour the green soap into the mold on top of the first layer. After pouring, spritz with alcohol to get rid of bubbles. Allow to cool and harden for 5-10 minutes while you prepare the next layer.
- For the last layer, chop 10.5 oz. of the Clear Melt & Pour Base into small cubes. Place the soap into a heat-safe container and melt in the microwave using 30 second bursts. After each burst, stir the soap. Be careful not to overheat and burn the soap.
- Add shavings of the Green Color Block to the melted soap until you get a dark green. Add 1 Tbsp. of shredded loofah and 4 mL of the fragrance oil. Stir everything together. Let the soap cool to between 125° F and 130° F to allow the loofah to suspend evenly throughout the soap and to prevent melting the layer below.
- Spritz the second layer with alcohol to help the third layer adhere, then pour into the mold. After pouring, spritz with alcohol to get rid of bubbles.
- Let the soap harden for 4-8 hours before removing from the mold. Once the soap is cool and hard, remove from the mold and use a sharp knife to cut along the score lines.

I made this gardeners soap today and after waiting the recommended 8 hours, I cut it. The top layer came apart. Is there a way to reattach it?
Yes, you can use melt and pour soap. Melt 1-2 ounces on 10 second bursts, then brush a thin layer in between the two pieces. Press the top on gently and let it dry for another day. That usually helps the layers stay together.
Hi, there these are adorable. I just watched your rebatching tutorial. What is the shelf life if water is added or did i miss something? Also, what is the shelf life on the melt and pour kits?
I’m looking to expand our products with guest soaps and I thought that rebatching would be a great idea.
The shelf life of both rebatch and melt and pour is about one year. They store best in a cool, dry place like a basement, cabinet, or garage.
