  1. I LLLLLLOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEE making lip balm. I started when i was 8 and the only thing i can’t find is coconut oil. My local drugstore does not sell it. Neither does my Wal-Mart or Kmart. do you have an idea were I can get some??????????????

    1. You lost your password to the Bramble Berry account? Or do this video after you paid for it? Just email us at info (at) brambleberry (dot) com and we’ll get you set up to watch the video.

PS – So cool that you spell your name exactly like mine. I’ve never met anyone else that did =)

      1. Anne-Marie- don’t be so kind, ‘Anne-Marie’ is pretending to be you! She can’t have a baby named Jamisen too.

        1. LOL! =) You never know and it’s so much easier to assume goodwill. My Jamisen baby still isn’t walking … soon though! =)

  2. Hi Anne-Marie! This recipe uses peppermint essential oil (2nd). However, when I looked at the BB site, there is no little green “I’m edible and lip balm safe” badge. I called BB to verify and was told that it is not safe for lip balm. I’m confused. Could you please clarify?

    1. Hi Lisa – At the time this recipe was posted, our second distillation was edible but different batches, different processors etc… mean that the essential oils need to be certified with each batch. That said, I’m clearly seeing a notation on the item currently that it is safe for lip balm (“Edible: Yes (& Kosher”). Do you recall who gave you the incorrect information? Perhaps they didn’t read the description of the oil and were just looking for the the little green ‘Yes, I’m edible’ logo?

      1. I spoke to Elizabeth when I called. (She was really sweet, by the way.) I saw the note you mention (“Edible: Yes (& Kosher”), but she told me that if it was lip safe it would definitely have the green logo. She told me that anything that was lip safe would have that logo. No logo = no lip safe. Is there any way I can determine if what I have here is safe for lip balm? Thanks!

        1. I order all the essential oils and the Peppermint is ordered from the world’s largest peppermint farm/distillery that supplies to gum and toothpaste manufacturers – it’s definitely safe and has been for the last couple years. I came to work this morning and asked our marketing gal why we had pulled the logo from that one and she said it was because we had too many customers adding too much Peppermint EO to their lip balm and then complaining about the cooling burn so they pulled the logo. We’re still discussing putting it back on our not with more strong usage rate warnings. =)

          1. Great! That’s what I needed to know. I love that you answer questions so completely. You really go out of your way for your customers. Your work & time is appreciated!

  3. I've never seen soap blow up a microwave like beeswax. I suspect this is because beeswax takes so much longer to heat up. And also, the size of the container really plays a role. If the container is 100% full and you're stirring frequently, the beeswax/microwave issue should be fine – so long as you're stirring frequently! =)

  4. Great tutorial. You said in the video to avoid the microwave. Does soap ever blow up in the microwave like the lip balm. I've heard some soapers suggest avoiding the microwave for soap but mostly because it's easier regulate the temperature.

  5. This is great! I have made lip balm, but it's so nice to see it done with a video and gives me different ideas, thanks!

  6. This is great! I have made lip balm, but it's so nice to see it done with a video and gives me different ideas, thanks!

  7. Jessie – Brilliant suggestion! Sometimes those little labels can be awfully tiresome to try and peel off =)

Cindy – A full sheet of one style on one sheet? I'll ask our designer. I've got them busy on the Bramble Berry newsletter this week and I'll keep you posted.

  8. Very nice, Love the labels too! Question – is there a way to get only one style label to a full sheet? I'm technically challenged…

  9. Love to video, I have a tip when dealing with full sheet labels, score the back of the sheet with an exacto knife before cutting out the labels. It makes it soo much easier to get the backing off.

  10. Your tutorial videos are definitely totally worth that! I love, love, love the soaping DVDs I bought from BB. 🙂

    Thanks for the free preview!

  11. twin buzzle, honey is water soluble and will likely bead up or sink to the bottom of your lip balm. Some people try it and just stir, stir, stir while it cools to try to keep the honey suspended, but it has mixed results.

Very nice tutorial Anne-Marie, love the shamrock green and the cute polka dots!

  12. Thanks everyone! I am so glad that you're liking the video and finding it helpful. And, it's good that the 13 minutes wasn't dragging for you! Yippeee. Laura, depending on the complexity of the project and video shoot, the pricing may vary a bit but my goal is to make it affordable for everyone to learn longer, more complex projects. And of course, I'll keep doing the blog with fun and unique soaping ideas here =)

  13. Ann-Marie,
Is it ok to sweeten lip balm with a teensy bit honey? And thanks for another great video:D

  14. Thank you! I love making lip balms as presents. This ep is full of great helpful hints, and I love how cheery you always are during them. 🙂 The only problem now is resisting buying more supplies…

Will it be $5.95 a tutorial video, then?

  15. awesome video! the heat gun tip is a super plus…and I loved the fact that you demonstrated on two different scale versions 🙂

  16. Loving the clean up tips! 😉
Are we on the same wavelength this week? I did lip balm today too!
