Colors used in this project were Heavy Metal Gold Mica (coming soon to Bramble Berry), Canary Labcolor, Non-Bleeding Violet and Liquid Orange mixed with Heavy Metal Gold for the swirl. Click here for instructions on making this soap.

I fragranced the bar with Rhubarb al Fresco (yum) and it smells fresh, bright and sweet – just like the design.

Overall, the design came out crisp, clean and interesting looking. The heavy gold mica is the perfect foil for the bright and cheery colors of yellow and purple, giving the look a little edge.

My younger brother, Erik also is quite a soapmaster. Since he teaches classes at Otion, he’s a tough judge. He did the “Will this break in the shower” test to ensure that the layers were sticking.

I held my breath.

They stuck. Phew. Every time I do a soap that doesn’t turn out just perfect, he teases me mercilessly. The BB staff think those exchanges are hilarious.

  1. Anon,

Research, research, research =) You saw how many tries it took me to get the perfect frosting on my little cupcake debacle(s) last year. I’d start with the recipe I decided was a good one and then tweak from there. We do have one customer that emailed and said she has been adding SLS and it’s been working well.

    =)

  2. still trying how to find the exact and perfect recipe for soapfrosting to make soap cupcakes and to decorate other soaps.

  3. lovemichie – I used clear base for the entire log. That is the best way to get all that deep sparkly goodness from the mica!

Joanna – Amber took those pictures in an inexpensive little light tent with a white background. Gotta love that reflective light. 🙂

  4. I “always” use the shea m&p for m&p … and I recently ordered a pound or two of the clear to play with the whole jelly roll thing … I should have ordered more! I can’t wait to do this too! 🙂 Thank you for all the wonderful ideas.

  5. These came out so great! What a nifty idea. And thanks for the step-by-step photos on a previous post!

  6. I think this is a great twist on layering m&p soap. Is the heavy metal gold mica in the clear m&p? It’s a gorgeous colour.
