Whipped Pearl Body Butter DIY

This Whipped Pearl Body Butter is smooth, creamy, and inspired by the ocean. The base is avocado butter. After a few minutes with a hand mixer, the dense butter becomes extremely smooth and fluffy.

This recipe also contains seaweed extract. It’s dispersed in fractionated coconut oil, which has a light texture that glides onto skin. Finally, pearl powder is added for luxury and Super Pearly White Mica for a touch of shimmer.

Whipped Pearl Body Butter

Because this is an oil-based recipe that doesn’t contain water, a preservative isn’t necessary. Keep in mind that body butters have a heavier feeling on the skin than lotion. Arrowroot powder is added so the recipe doesn’t feel too oily.

1 oz. Seaweed Extract
4 mL Island Coconut Fragrance Oil
4 mL Pacific Pearl Fragrance Oil
1/2 tsp. Pearl Powder

  1. Hi can you please recommend a fragrance oil I can substitute for Pacific Pearl? I live in Australia and am able to get Island Coconut but not Pacific Pearl and wanted to know if there was maybe a substitute

    1. It’s a pretty unique smell so I am honestly not sure. I would try another sea type scent instead. Island Coconut is way too sweet.

  2. Hello! I am new to making lotions from scratch and I was wondering if I could make this more of a body lotion in addition to the body butter.. If so, what would I add? Thanks!!!

  3. I’m thinking about doing it but I would like to know if in hot and humid places this will stay as good as in the first day, What is good for agragaf that its consistency is always the same in the summer

    1. In really hot areas the whipped body butters would probably be more deflated and melty. It would help to keep them stored in the refrigerator or an air conditioned room.

Can this recipe be made substituting shea butter for the avocado butter?
thanks! love these recipes please keep them coming!

    1. You can definitely substitute Shea Butter for Avocado butter in this recipe.

      1. Thanks! Also, can I omit the seaweed extract? What is its purpose in this recipe? (Other than it sounds cool)

  5. I made a body butter last night with mango , Kokum , bramble Berry’s Turmeric and Shea butter . Whipped perfectly … today I went to use it, and it doesn’t have that whipped consistency anymore , it’s more so hard . How can I keep that whipped texture ? Help please ????

    1. You may want to try using a softer butter, like avocado, in place of mango. Reducing your harder ingredients will make your body butter more soft and spreadable.

    1. You could try swapping the Pearl Powder for Titanium Dioxide in this recipe though I’m not sure how well the TD would mix in since it is so dense. If you’re not wanting to use the Pearl Powder I would probably just leave that part out of the recipe.

  6. Hello! This recipe looks amazing. I have ordered all the ingredients to make it but have one question. What is the prof the mica? Is it just for color or is it helping the arrowroot power to cut the greasy feel? TIA

    1. I’m not 100% sure. It most likely would not whip up quite the same until the butter starts to cool and solidify again to help add volume to the finished product.

  7. Hi, I was wondering if the shimmering Mica would leave a shimmering effect on the skin. I’m looking to make a shimmering body butter. Would the addition of cosmetic glitter along with the mica leave a shimmer on the skin?

    1. Yes, adding a shimmery mica to this body butter will also leave shimmer on the skin once used. I would recommend making a small batch to test your usage rates.

  8. Hi… I was wondering if I could use this recipe with other FO that are soap safe? TIA

    1. Yes, all of our fragrance oils are skin safe and also safe for body butters. You can swap the Pacific Pearl Fragrance Oil for a FO of your choice.

I’ve been stalking your website for a while now for DIY projects to sell for the holidays! However, I’m concerned about the products being all natural. Are the fragrance oils all natural?

    1. They are going to be a blend of synthetic and natural ingredients. If you want 100% natural you will want to go with essential oils.

  10. Magnificent beat ! I wish to apprentice while you amend
your web site, how could i subscribe for a blog site?

I’m new to the world of making soaps and lotions, however, this was easy and all my friends can’t stop rubbing it on themselves. They loved the smell and feel of this wonderful lotion. I’ve tried to teach them that a little goes a long way, but they don’t care!! ; ) It’s silky and smells wonderful and after making a sample batch, I’ll be making much larger batches in the future!! Thank you for all the wonderful recipes and products.
One question, I’m moving to Canada, will I have any issues acquiring your products up there?

    1. We do ship to Canada, but there are certain things we can’t send across the border, like lye, witch hazel, alcohol, nail polish base, and any fragrance or essential oil with a ‘ground only’ shipping restriction.

  14. Could allantoin powder be used in place of pearl powder? Or does allantoin have to be mixed with water? Thanks!

    1. We would not recommend adding Powdered Goat Milk to this recipe. Once added to the butter the goat milk would be hydrated and start to go rancid. It would have a similar shelf as goat milk sitting out would, though it can be extended a bit by storing the body butter in your fridge. We normally only recommend using goat milk in cold process soap recipes so it has a chance to saponify which prevents rancidity.

  15. How long is the shelf life and do you need to refigerate it or can you use something to keep a longer shelf life?

    1. Hi Emma, all of those ingredients have at least a shelf life of a year. You should be fine to use that as the shelf life for that product.

    1. Arrowroot Powder is used to help cut the grease in this recipe. If you have Tapioca Powder that would work similarly. You can also try this recipe without the Arrowroot it would just feel a bit more oily.

        1. No, arrowroot or tapioca powder will be your best bet to cut down on that greasy feeling.
