Apparently, the secret love of pink runs in my family. I called my Mom, a bit like a wailing child in need of comfort from mommy, to commiserate over the giant pink shell our home had been turned into.
She immediately offered to drive up (3 hours one way!) to view the walls and help me figure out what to do. I demurred. She got my Father on the phone. He made comforting tut, tutting noises. Then, as an afterthought, he said, “Well, we just repainted and I guess our walls are also pink.”
And with that, my perception of our pink Barbie walls changed. My mom chose a pink color for her walls, on purpose! She did research. She painted six different colors on the walls. She had friends over. She pulled in a favor with a real, live interior decorator. Together, they chose the pink color and she agreed that the pink strip on the test wall was “comforting.”
So, my parents painted their entire house…pink. Oddly enough, this all took place at the same time my house was accidentally being painted pink. Check out the photos of my parent’s house. Notice the Pomegranate (Benjamin Moore #AS295) accent wall. It’s a bold choice that my parents both claim “makes” the entire room.
I can’t claim to love, love, love the color scheme at our house. I’m still aghast every time I see the empty shell. But, I feel soothed knowing that my Mom chose the exact same color with intention, thought and thorough research. And who knows? Since Mothers generally do know best, maybe… in time… I’ll grow to love it.

If it were me, I wouldn’t keep colors I had to force myself to like. Painting the walls is suppose to be the cheapest redecorating one can do.
Love reading your website.

Great news! Some of the lights are being installed today and the paint looks much, much better. We’ll be going with Pomegranite (thanks Mom!) for the Accent Walls instead of the Coffee Whip or whatever that color was.
It should be warm and beautiful (hopefully).
Jude, I know, I know. That is the most pink outfit isn’t it? It is totally wedding appropriate though. And, today? I’m wearing a jacket the color of my Mom’s pomegranate walls! =)
Jennifer, of course I remember you. The show we did together was one of my highlights for my entire business career. My husband keeps telling me that people will start to call our place the “Pink House” shortly. =)

So pink does nothing for me!
If you are unhappy with the pink color paint it over with one that you will be happy with!

Hey Anne Marie, long time no chat 🙂 Your parental units and mine should get together and go bowling their whole house (all of outside a lot of inside) is painted pink. Kids at school teased me that I grew up inside a birthday cake. I have a pink bathroom in homage.

Hey Anne-Marie,
Have you had a look at the colour of your cardigan in your pic this week:

I love it! The colors in my house are shocking, playful and sophisticated all at once. Feel it. If you hate it change it, but don’t worry about how other people will see it.

I love bold color… however, my DH has limited the color choices I’m allowed, “no girly colors.” Mostly blues and taupes, very soothing colors.

~Love that Pomegranate! My kitchen is a deep shade of red, my bathroom, bedroom, and basement are all differnt shades of purple, so maybe I just have bold taste in color. Andrea~

Like mother, like daughter, perhaps? 😉 I think given all the research your mom did on the color, she, and therefore you, can’t be wrong!
The Pomegranate accent wall is spectacular! If I could talk dh into doing it, I would.
