Supposedly, 2009 is the year of redecorating. With the economy prompting a rise in “staycations” and frugality, homeowners are getting into the DIY Trend and redoing their living spaces. You may remember my disastrous repainting project (click here to be reminded of the pink shell house)? Well, I repainted but just a little bit. Only enough to make the house bearable so now, I’m on the painting hunt again.
Some things I’m really liking:
Shiny Paints at Modern Masters
Vellum and Night Train from Benjamin MooreColor blocking

Hopefully this DIY Home Project will prove more successful than my last couple of painting related home forays.

Oooh, I love the color blocking idea! I want to do some MAJOR painting in our house this year. Time to freshen things up and make them feel a little new, even if they aren’t =D

Mary, I’m thinking something with color blocking and squares but I could be totally crazy.
Kat, I like your idea of redoing the fixtures with your claw foot tub with metallic antiqued gold fixtures. That would be soooo impressive looking.

i love that midnight blue and also the metallic.
i did read on msn yesterday that
metallic is going to be Hot
it is really really fun to
faux in those metallic and opalescent glazes. I had a blast
doing my 2 bathrooms. one I did Asian influence; chartreause with a pearl over glaze.
the other was victorian because i have a claw foot tub to die for in the other bathroom and all metalic antiqued gold fixtures. eveyone comments that they love the bronze and opal glaze over the plain jane beige base coat.
it was so FUN to do!

Anne-Marie,
I can alway count on You to
increase my endorphin levels! After chuckling at the giant Mutant
Shell, I understand the dilemna
there are colors we REALLY like
but we can’t “wear” them! Like
peas, camo army, chartreauses, olives in the greens family. Those wash me out and make me look like I need a liver enzyme test of some kind.
i once heard a noted designer say you should decorate your surroundings in a palette that suits you.
Oh, hooui! And, fouii!
Do what you like unless you are
Martha Stewart during a taping session!
btw, you looked quite pretty in the little studio! so I would agree with what “they” say on that point!

Yup, we’re going to do some yard-type things to build a tiered garden. Then, maybe I can sweet talk DH into painting another room. We do it in increments, so we don’t loathe painting. After 2 years, we’re about 30% done with the house. 😀 But the rooms that are done, are DONE.
LMAO at your pink house. We had a stucco pink house in California. I wonder if folks felt more welcome?

Good luck with your projects!
Yesterday I saw the tired color in one of my bathrooms for the first time, LOL. It is peach and white sponge painted. Decided it needed a nice grayish toned sage green paint re-do.
My soap shop color is a surprise. We painted in 2008. The color was not what I had intended, but I actually now love the warm caramel color. Very up to date.
Change is good! And I can see this being the year for DIY change!

I’m redecorating as well. Painting and buying furniture, making creations for the walls… anything to bring the needed transformation to make this space my own.

You are ambitious! Good luck with this project. Your colors look fun.
