Argan & Ginseng Gel Eye Serum

I’m so excited about this Soap Queen TV because it’s a little out of the normal soap project. Surprise! It’s an eye serum that also doubles as a great eye make-up remover. Argan & Ginseng Gel Eye Serum is gentle and skin-loving with ingredients like argan oil, jojoba oil and ginseng extract. Argan oil is known for its high content of antioxidants, and is popular for a wide variety of cosmetic applications. To learn more about argan oil, click here. Ginseng extract comes from the ginseng root, which is commonly used for homeopathic treatments. The addition of cera bellina wax gives this serum a soft and easily-spreadable gel texture. To apply, use your finger to gently pat the serum around the eye area…a little goes a long way! I recommend applying this serum at night before bed.

What You’ll Need:
1.2 oz. Argan Oil
.7 oz. Jojoba Oil
.2 oz (10 mL) Ginseng Extract
.2 oz. Cera Bellina Wax
.2 Vitamin E Oil
10 Slidey Lip Tins

    1. Hi Jane!

We didn’t test this recipe with sunflower wax, so I’m not entirely sure! We love the cera bellina wax because it has a unique gel texture that spreads easily on the eyes. I would recommend making a small test batch with the sunflower wax and seeing what you think. 🙂

    2. Can I substitute the argan oil for : olive squalane or rosehip or macadamia oil? and the cera belina wax for beeswax or soy wax?

      1. Hi Simone!

You can use those oils! Any lightweight moisturizing oil will work well. As for the wax, we like the cera bellina wax because it has a spreadable gel-like feel. It’s perfect for the sensitive under eye area. If you do substitute the wax, I would recommend making a small test batch to see if you like the way it feels. 🙂

  1. Do you have editable label templates for your slidey lip tins? That would be amazing! If not, where would I find the label templates that fit the lip tin specs?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi KC!

We have lots of free templates on BrambleBerry.com! This label template allows you to write or type in the name of your balm, and fits the Slidey Lip Tins: https://www.brambleberry.com/Givember-Lip-Balm-Labels-Downloadable-File-P5477.aspx

Thank you so much! I am always amazed at how helpful and responsive you guys are. 🙂

  2. Can I add Arabian coffee seed instead of ginseng or in addition to the recipe. How much do you think I could add of the coffee oil?

    1. Hi Barbara!

Interesting idea! I’m actually not very familiar with this ingredient, so I’m not 100% sure. From my quick google search, it looks like coffee oil is extremely moisturizing and light in texture, so it sounds like it would be a nice addition to this recipe. The ginseng extract used in this recipe is dispersed in fractionated coconut oil. This might help give you a reference for what kind of texture the extract has. I would recommend trying to replace the ginseng with the coffee seed oil, and using the frozen spoon trick to test the texture before pouring it into your tins. If you find it to be too thin, you can add more wax. If it’s too thick, you can add more liquid oil. I’ve included a blog post to this technique so you can take a look! 🙂

  3. Is this recipe workable without the ginseng extract? Can I use another product in place of the ginseng extract?

  4. So excited to make this serum. Wondering if we can substitute the cera bellina wax with beeswax?

    1. Hi Monisha!

Cera bellina wax has a unqiue gel texture. That gives the serum a spreadable, glossy feel. Beeswax is firmer and won’t be as glossy. You can add beeswax if you like, but it will change the texture of the recipe. I would recommend a small test batch to check the consistency. 🙂

  5. I made this serum for my mom for her birthday, and added some rose absolute. It was great, she really loved it. I sneakily kept some too 🙂
Thanks so much for the fabulous recipe!

      1. Hi Yardlan!

This serum has a gel-like, soft, spreadable texture. When it’s in the tins, it is solid, but as soon as you warm it up with your finger it becomes soft. It glides on smoothly around your eyes. You can see what it looks like going on at the end of the video. 🙂

    1. Hi Shirva!

This serum is great for moisturizing the area around eyes, and feels great on your skin! However, we haven’t tested it to prove that it helps with dark circles and puffiness, so I can’t say for sure. You may want to test some on your eyes, or look into ingredients thought to reduce puffiness. 🙂

    1. Hi Sharon!

This serum feels great on the skin! It glides on smoothly and feels soft and moisturizing. It has a unique gel-like texture. When I put it on I don’t notice any sticky feeling. 🙂

I was wondering- how long will these last? Would adding a preservative be possible or a good idea?

    1. Hi Sabrina!

This serum should last about a year or so. 🙂

Also, preservatives are needed when your product contains water (like lotion) or when water may be introduced into the product (like a scrub stored in the shower). They help prevent mold and bacteria. Because this serum won’t come in contact with water, it doesn’t need a preservative! 1. Hi Anna!

We didn’t add vitamin C to this recipe, so I’m not entirely sure! I believe that would be just fine, as long as the vitamin C is oil soluble. A small test batch would be very helpful as well. 🙂

      -Kelsey with Bramble Berry

    1. So glad to hear that Anna! Have fun making this serum. 🙂

  7. Could you possible add printed instructions? I love the idea of this recipe, need to get a few things before I can make it..Thank you very much.

    1. Hi Virginia!

That’s a great suggestion! We went ahead and updated this post with a recipe card. Have fun making it! 🙂

    1. Hi Gwen!

I’m not 100% sure! I emailed our vendor to see if they know more. Once I hear back from them I’ll let you know. 🙂

      -Kelsey with Bramble Berry

      1. Hi Gwen!

I just heard back from our vendor. Our extract is Panax Ginseng Root grown in China. Hope that helps! 🙂

        -Kelsey with Bramble berry

        1. That’s great! Thank you so much. I’m happy to hear it’s Panax, as that’s the type that has the most studies involving topical use. Supposedly Panax ginseng (but not the others) may reduce wrinkles, has mild antifungal effects, and may possibly even help protect against certain types of skin cancers.

  8. Hi ????
I was wondering, can you do a tour of your soap lab A.M I would love to see it and maybe how you keep things organized and also possibly a tutorial for bath melts ????
    Thanks, Jasmyn

    1. Hi Jasmyn!

Bramble Berry isn’t open to the public, but we do have an awesome retail store in downtown Bellingham called Otion! You should definitely visit if you’re in the area. They have a whole section of fragrance oils to sniff. 🙂
