Greetings from London’s Heathrow Airport where my husband and I have just toured the airport, via multiple buses, for the last three hours. The giant tour was unintentional. We have a 7 hour layover and had heard of a ‘Yotel’ – a short stay sleeping pod – in Terminal 4. We chased the rumor down, with the aid of the Yotel website and several kindly (but misinformed) airport employees, only to find that we had to leave passport control to get to the sleeping pods and that it might take up to 3 hours to get back to our gate. So, no Yotel for us.

We fly through the night tonight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and arrive at 4 a.m. By that time, we will have flown through two different nights in two different time zones (Washington State night and London night). We are already flagging a bit but are still in high spirits. Though I am not wearing my abaya yet, I will be sporting the fashionable garb before I step off the plane in Jeddah.

I am looking forward to the learning and education that the Entrepreneur’s Organization has planned for us and hoping to be able to blog from my trip but if not, you’re in good hands with Amber who will be supervising and writing the blog while I am gone. As for me, I’ll have the sleepless-night-on-plane thing down pretty well by the time we land.

  2. Hi Team Soap Queen,

I'm in my hotel room in Saudi where I just paid $70 USD to get internet (not kidding – you guys won't be hearing very much from me!).

We were just awoken by the prayers being broadcast through the city, kind of a haunting, tuneless melody.

And, now we're headed to breakfast and then off to a half day of scuba diving before the education key note starts. at 4 p.m. They start the education at 4 p.m. and then dinners are very late (9:30).

Pamela, The soap is just thick saran wrap. I love it because you can easily smell through it.

TinCan, That's just how we felt! I was frustrated after spending 3 hours looking for the Yotel but looking on the bright side, at least it gave us something to do during our long wait. If we couldn't sleep, the second best thing to do was explore I suppose. =)

  3. Have a great time on your trip!! I look forward to each post you write. You are a true wealth of information and I can't wait to hear about your trip and all the interesting things you learn!! You look fabulous!! Be safe!

  4. The Saudi gifting soaps are beautiful and I was wondering what plastic covering you use to package them in? Perhaps Amber knows this!

Best of luck on your eastern trip.

  5. My husband was flying through Heathrow from the US to South Africa – he also trie bed to find the Yotel and got on a bus – eventually he realised about 30 minutes into the journey – that he was misdirected by the airport staff, so he decided to get off the bus and walk back to the airport. He walked for 2 hours and then eventually walked into a shop to find out where he was – the guy felt sorry for him and called him a taxi back to the airport. Perhaps someone should tell Heathrow to infom their staff of the whereabouts of the Yotel! Or take it off of their site.

  6. That is a fashionable abaya! The sleeve detail is lovely. And it looks like it is a more "modern" style that does not need one hand to hold it closed all the time. Zipper? buttons?
Enjoy Jeddha, it as some interesting areas and I hope you get to snorkel or dive in the Red Sea.

  7. you certainly do look nice in that outfit. You are just round the corner from me at the moment (although I hope, you have set off for Jeddah by now), I don't live far from Heathrow. Hope you have a great time in Saudi, it seems to be such an interesting country. One day I will travel there as well.

  8. Goodness, you sure look cute in anything, don't you?! Wishing you a safe, turbulence-free flight!

  9. You look great, I love the detail on the bottom sleeve. Hope you have a safe and wonderful time. I look forward to hearing about your journey.

  10. Anne-Marie, I do hope you can write to us back here at "home" during your trip.

    God bless, and be safe.

    I am fascinated!

  11. Very cool AM that you are on this trip. Definitely a cultural experience you will never forget. I love your outfit. Be safe and have fun.

  12. You're a natural in that outfit! Write if you can. We are all very interested to hear of your adventures!

  13. you look adorable!!! btw you can keep your hijab on that way throughout the trip. be well!
